Women in STEM
My Facebook has been full of news articles from my college since it's apparently a big thing. Today it was about the "women in STEM" club. Most of the article made me cringe. Why must girls in STEM be something special? Congrats. I have boobs and a vagina. I think differently. That doesn't change the point that I'm a human in STEM. The gender shouldn't matter. I'm a chick, you're a guy. Congrats. Now let's fucking invent a cool ass thing. I understand that throughout history women have been discriminated against in STEM but this is different. Girls aren't special. We're the minority still but that doesn't mean we need to make a big deal out of it. We're all trying to be mathematicians, engineers, nano technicians, programmers, etc. Our gender shouldn't matter for this.
