Medina had kept her promise, whether that was due to the fact that she had grown rather fond of Floribeth, or simply because she craved a little distraction, remained unknown. Yet here they were, approaching something that looked like a gigantic mansion, located somewhere along the Amalfi Coast.
Of course, Medina wasn’t the least bit surprised that Blaise would be heading toward this event, seeing as how the hosts were none other than the Figli dell’Infinito. Somewhat of an extremely pretentious vampire society, one that remained invisible to the common man, yet somehow always involved in rather questionable things and ruled Italy with an invisible iron hand. And this was one of their fancy little parties, though there was nothing little about it.
Now the question remained, why would Blaise be invited?
Medina’s best bet was that they were once more recruiting naïve young witches, promising them all kinds of luxury, tricking them into becoming their magical slaves essentially. Medina would know this, seeing as she knew some of these people. She had encountered them over the years during her time in Italy, but she had learned how to avoid them, as she wasn’t that interested in their ways or what they had to offer.
Still, there was one who didn’t quite seem to accept her refusal to vow her immortal life and devotion to their little club.
Alessio Di Pietro, or at least, that was what he called himself.
Admittedly, Medina knew that his determination to have her join was based upon his personal desires, seeing as she had played with him a few times, entertained his advances toward her. Of course, Medina had merely done so for her own benefits and agenda, as she often tended to. She had her motives, as there was just something about people like him, men like him. Always so arrogant and cocky, boasting about how powerful they were. Somehow, Medina always tended to exploit them. She knew why, but she didn’t care to explain that when asked.
Besides, her little skill had proven rather useful now, as all it had taken was one call and a bit of sweet talking, ego pleasing, to get the two of them invited.
"Now, not to scare you," Medina began, "but be aware that these people are rather… well, odd. I am not quite sure how to describe them. Picture the Strix, but somehow even more pretentious and arrogant. A truly impossible task, yet here we are. Some of these vampires are ancient, as in, older than us two combined, perhaps…" She paused briefly, mentally bracing herself.
"Regardless, be extremely wary. Some of them are very persuasive, especially if they see a rather young vampire. They have a cult-like mentality." Medina warned her as she held Floribeth’s hand tightly. "It is very important we find your cousin and get her out of here. But we cannot afford to make a scene. Chances are, they are trying to charm her. Offer her some kind of deal. Have her believe that being in their corner is going to open great opportunities for her. But trust me when I say, it’s all make-believe. Once you become stuck in their circle, there is no getting out."
A small pause.
"Not alive, at least."
Carefully Medina held onto Flori’s hand, guiding her toward the entrance, and admittedly, Medina was slightly impressed, the place looked stunning, but that did little to calm her nerves, as she knew it was game on tonight.
"One more thing, though," she said before entering. "I trust you. I trust you with my life, and more importantly, with my nature. These people cannot know what I am. Under no circumstance should they ever learn of the abilities I possess."
And she meant that, because she was aware of how these people felt about hybrids. Now admittedly, she knew about their dislike for wolf-vampire hybrids, but she wasn’t exactly sure how the topic of heretics would be received, and she had no desire to find out.
"Let’s just keep our chins up, our eyes open… and put on our sweetest smiles. And let’s pray that your cousin is going to be a well-behaved proper lady for once."
