it's just really unfortunate. i'm sure it isn't bad everywhere but the way it's managed store level and even at the corporate level, it's just sorta bad. they don't take the employees into consideration as much as they do management. they also pretty much say "fuck you" if you have any form of health issues or mental illness and you're looking to get promoted to a lead or anything beyond that. someone i work with has been with the company for yeeears and is a genuinely good employee and person and because she has her own issues, the management has straight up turned down her applications without even giving her an interview and then they talk trash in the break room or mutter about it to others and nothing gets done about it like !!! it's shit.

out of curiosity: specifically what about it sucks? (bc i had considered working at one for awhile)

honestly, it probably just sucks a lot for me because i live in one of the most conservative counties in texas and the store i work at is one of the only stores in the area. the customers are extremely rude, Republican, and nasty in every sense of the word. sure, you get the nice ones from time to time but it's very imbalanced. bad customers aside, the management at my store in particular is just bad. they shit talk behind people's backs, have conspired to get employees fired (especially because one of them wanted the backroom position which lead to the ousting of an employee that’s been there for 10+ years but that is a LONG story), and go out of their way to dig up dirt on others. also, HR is terrible and even though they have an anonymous program to go to to talk about your problems, they drop names to the managers who so happen to be the problem. so that's fun! that's just the tip of the iceberg. i mean if you can find a store that doesn't have problems like that, you're set. the pay's alright plus you get vacation and sick time and stuff, just good luck actually getting paid for all of the vacation time when you take it.
