Our plant highlights in May 2020
Erigeron karvinskianus or Mexican Fleabane is one of our favourite plants, flowering from late Spring, right through until Autumn and loved by bees.
We love the tall spires of Digitalis ‘Suttons Apricot’ or Foxglove, under the Birch trees in our woodland bed.
Centranthus ruber or Red Valerian self-seeds into our brick walls, flowers for months and is a magnet for pollinators.
For us Allium ‘Purple Sensation’ really are the stars of the month of May. We can’t get enough of them, which is why we have shared more lovely photos of them here.
Knautia macedonica, is a Scabious which bears crimson pincushion-like flowers, starting to bloom here in May and if deadheaded, continuing to flower for the summer months.
We think every Garden needs at least one variety of Hardy Geranium and there are varieties for every location. They are not to be confused with Pelargoniums, which are commonly referred to as geraniums.
Chelidonium majus or Greater Celandine is classed as a weed, but we like its pretty yellow flowers which provide nectar for insects for several months every Spring.
The slender spires of the small creamy-yellow flowers of Sisyrinchium striatum look lovely paired with the giant purple flower heads of Allium and attract bees.
We love Angelica archangelica for its statuesque height, sometimes up to 2.5 metres, and its ‘umbelliferous’ flowers. It self-seeds all over the Curve Garden and is happy in sun or shade.
The tall spires of Salivia’s purple flowers sit beautifully alongside our Alliums.
