Floyd has no business showing up the night before her wedding. They broke up the better part of a decade ago. It was earth shattering, and if him showing up here was any indicator: he never quite recovered. "Don't marry him," he finally says once the shock of seeing him on the other side of the door subsides some. He supposed maybe he should lead with a hello, but he traveled all his way to say those three words he might as well lead with them. "It would be a mistake and you know it."

Naomi’s words brought on a smile that reached Floyd’s eyes, and he was one ‘aw shucks’ away from being a true country boy cliche.  Instead he sips his sweet tea as they gaze out at the horses grazing through the corral.  It occurs to Floyd just how long it’s been since somebody made him smile like this.   “Well, I dunno what I did to trick you into thinking that, but I’m sure glad I did,” he tries to joke the compliment away but Naomi deserves more than that.  He needs her to know she makes him feel the same way.  “I could say the same ‘bout you.  I could even make a joke how all that sunlight you bring is good for my crops, but that might be too corny even for me.”

From the moment Floyd walked into the shop he felt a little out of his element.  Except for grocery pickups, the hardware store, and maybe a couple drinks down at the local bar, Floyd didn’t find himself wandering into town very often.  The farm was self sufficient enough he didn’t exactly see a reason to.  Not wanting to bother the woman behind the counter he continues to browse but it feels like everything is listed in a language he didn’t understand.  Finally he wanders up the counter and offers her a warm smile, “Mornin’,” he nods.  “What are the chances you can help me find something for a friend of mine?  He thinks he’s... cursed.”  Despite being a werewolf himself, the words sounded almost ridiculous coming from him.

Floyd’s horse playfully trots ahead as the trailhead narrows some, and smiles over his shoulder at Jo.  He urges Robin to a stop so they can go off the trail and into the woods like they did when they were teenagers.  The clearing between trees had a wide enough berth that they could continue their ride side by side.  “Remember when we used to come out here like fifteen years ago?  We’d smoke that really bad weed you’d get your hands on.  In hindsight I’m not convinced it wasn’t just like seventy percent oregano.”

Floyd stirs awake the moment his wife nudges him, he’s never been a very heavy sleeper anyway.  The past few nights she’s complained about noises beyond the usual creaks of the house’s old bones.  Floyd on the other hand grew up in an old farmhouse and learned to ignore a lot of otherwise strange noises from an early age.  

“I told you it’s these old pipes,” he responds through a yawn, already throwing his legs over the side of the bed to inspect the noise if it would make her feel any better.  He reaches for a flashlight from his toolbox stashed away in the closet and hands it to her.  “Come on.  You can hold the flashlight while I check for leaks.”

Floyd practically collapses onto the old porch swing with an exhausted huff as he hands Naomi a cold drink.  He leans his head back against the old wooden structure and his eyes fall shut as the swing creaks back and forth.  For a moment he’s able to push everything front his mind: pack politics, the younger wolves he felt like he was failing, constantly worrying about TJ, the farm itself.  It was one of those days where it was just all too much upon his shoulders.  

He brings the beer bottle to his lips and takes a deep swig before holding up a single finger.  “No talkin’ just let me sit here and enjoy my beer and my company,” he manages to tease with a smirk as he peeks open an eye at her.  The offer really did mean a lot, but Floyd didn’t know where to begin.

Somedays Floyd felt too old to keep up with the younger wolves.  When he saw Coop being carried back to the property after getting caught in a neighboring farm’s trap he knew today was going to be one of those days.  Floyd was good for patching people up... maybe doing the occasional set of stitches, but this was way above the farmer’s pay grade.  He called one of his friend’s at the hospital (a fellow wolf who had been a family friend for years), but she was out of town with her wife so she sent over a new nurse who they trusted implicitly.  

“Just focus on your breathing, Coop,” he says as squats down next to the boy clutching his bleeding leg in pain.  He looks up when he sees headlights approach and he stands to greet them.  It’s when she steps out that he recognizes the familiar face, his nerves calm knowing the younger wolf would be in good hands.

“You’re coming an awful long way for a house call,” Floyd smirks as she approaches.
