have you ever thought about what would happen with xikeel, ned & martin had martin survived the oblivion crisis? (bonus if youd like: what would happen to them if they survived but through some means martin did not have to become emperor?)
oh yeah i did a detailed answer here
but i think that reality would be very very very miserable for martin unless he was able to get out of that position. like literally think he would burn himself out thinking that maybe he can use his position to make things better but the reality of the situation is probably that the emperor doesnt actually Have the power to make the position of Emperor obsolete. he might be quietly killed and replaced due to being uncooperative, or forced to cooperate using people he cares about as leverage, or he would get too depressed to like.. go on
that situation would be very very hard on ned and xikeel too. xikeel might adjust better but ned would not adjust and would just get increasingly frustrated at this situation. his relationship with martin would definitely be extremely fucking strained . there would be arguing and ned would go from just fearful to mad that martin is holding onto this and maybe even some anger at what he sees as a martyr complex. its still rooted in care for him and he would still love him but ned would feel very isolated and scared and angry at everything about the situation and not know what to do with it.
yeah the way things could have been good, and what they MIGHT have tried to do, is if martin just decided like Fuck It first things first, and him and ned and xikeel disappear together as the dust settles. just try to slip through the cracks at least for a while. what martin wanted to do eventually was just to go back to kvatch and help rebuild and maybe live there again, probably not as a priest. not worry about his place in things or the world, just being one person in many helping rebuild after a disaster. ned has no aspirations during the crisis besides being with martin and xikeel, and he likes the idea of going back to kvatch. xikeel would want to wander a bit, but would also want to stick around bc they feel like family to her.
9, 11, 15!
9. What was your favourite quest?
the confrontation with ulysses at the end of lonesome road. it’s just so good, a culmination of everything that’s happened before that, not only in lonesome road but all the dlcs. it’s epic
11. What’s a quest that everyone likes, but you hate?
honestly i don’t know which quests the fandom likes or dislikes but i didn’t enjoy come fly with me. i kept getting lost in the building and the nightkin kept surprising me and it just felt like too much work. i did enjoy watching the spaceships fly away, though
15. Is there a companion you find useless, but travel with anyway?
already answered!
Thank you so much for your time, and I apologize for this long, strange ask. I'm also sorry to hear how many people have stolen and reposted your art. I cannot imagine how difficult that must be to repeatedly face, and I don't want to contribute to it as well. Thank you so much, I hope you have a great day! (3/3)
Hey! thank you so much for the message and I hope this response isn’t too late! Definitely go ahead and post the sculpture and tag me when you do I can’t wait to see it! also thank you for your concern I’ve been dealing with this for a little while now and it’s been very irritating. I’m so glad theres folks like you out there who take the time to ask first <3 <3 <3
i decided to read the priory of the orange tree on a whim when i saw your art of ead... i was so intimidated when i picked it up from the library and saw it was 800pgs! but somehow i finished it in under a week... i havent read that much, that passionately since i was an early teen! it completely reignited my love of reading. thank you for unknowingly helping me do that c: are there any other fantasy novels you would recommend?
hi there! I’m so glad you enjoyed it :)
I’ve gotten asks like this quite a bit. I think the book that reminds me most of Sam Shannon’s “Priory” if you’re looking for something else to read in a similar vein, would be “Fire Logic” by Laurie J. Marks. Both have great worldbuilding, canon queer characters, and really innovative/fun approaches to magic, which I love.
also my wife keeps trying to get me to read “Gideon the Ninth” and I trust her taste, so even though I haven’t read it yet I know it’s going to be good.
