Hp Rec fest - Day 1

Rec Theme - A Favorite Fic Under 5000 words
Pairing - Snarry. Rating - E. Length - 4400 words.
Author - asnowyowl
Link - SnapePotter Dreamwidth , Walking the Plank
Summary - Who would have guessed that writing silly notes to someone could change the way you feel?
Rec because - Classic fluff with a happy ending! Writing letters to each other first for fun but things get hot and serious.
"He's shagging someone," Ron said. That was certainly impetus enough for Harry to tear his gaze from Snape. He'd never thought of himself as the possessive type, but he almost growled out the word, "Who?" "Ewww." Lavender looked as if she might sick up. "Who'd ever shag him?"
time to post the thing again
“Is it raining there?” Sirius asks, voice soft and filled with sleepiness. He yawns, then scrubs his free hand over his face. He's desperately trying to fight the urge to fall asleep.
Remus hums, there's some rustling, then “Yeah, it is. Why?”
“It's raining here too.”
It's hitting his window with a quiet pitter-patter. He loves it, but also hates it; it's trying to lure him to sleep when he wants to stay awake to talk to Remus.
“I like it when we have the same weather. Makes me feel like we're in the same place.” The words come out all jumbled together, and it's a miracle that Remus can understand what he’s saying.
“You're a dork,” he says, fondness easily detected in his tone. Sirius can easily picture that sweet, adoring smile on his face and god he misses Remus so much.
Half asleep or not, he never stops missing Remus.
“I miss you.”
“I miss you too.”
There's a lull in the conversation and Sirius finds his eyes slipping shut on their own accord. The rain mixed with Remus’ breathing on the other end of the phone fills him with comfort, and he's sure he'll sleep well tonight.
“I love you, Sirius.”
He says it back. Or at least he thinks he does. He says something back that somewhat resembles I love you too.
Remus knows what he means if the laugh he lets out is anything to go by.
Sirius drifts off to sleep with a smile on his face.
the start of an age lydia x jordan, 1k, daylight series, fluff prompt: early sunsets. also on ao3
----
The sixth time Lydia yawns, Jordan starts cleaning up everything behind the counter. She’s four days away from submitting her mock-ups for the editor position and she’s been a permanent fixture in the coffee shop, the mug beside her elbow never empty. She’s there from mid-morning until night, writing and rewriting, waving away anyone who tries to interact with her with a frown.
(Except Jordan. She tilts her face up and kisses him sweetly, if a little absentmindedly, whenever he comes by, her fingers lingering on his skin.)
Update, I binged “the devil in my bloodstream” because I have no self control when it comes to really good Beetlelands/Goldenrat writers. I can’t believe you’ve done me like this. ;__; I’m invested in this now, and I’m holding you to that “this will have a happy ending” thing. If you’d like, I’d still like to hear your fluff recs/headcanons. (I might be craving that good fluff even more now, oh man, my emotions!)
thank you so much!! i already typed this out and accidentally deleted it because i was on mobile but i’ll give it my best shot (again) !!
- i personally hc that beej learns everything about actually being in relationships from bullying lydia until she agrees to teach him (OBVIOUSLY they don’t talk about actual sex) so things like consent are definitely big, but also like what Casual Affection might entail and things like that (beetlejuice has never held a hand before in his life)
- even after this, when they get together he has trouble seeing himself as equally important because barbara and adam were already together - he doesn’t say this until adam coaxes it out of him, but it’s kind of obvious from how he thinks he’s supposed to sleep on the floor next to the bed, or how he thinks date night is just for them
- once they actually get him to sleep in the bed it’s one of his new favourite things; he’s a touch starved baby and the maitlands naturally cling on to him while they’re sleeping. more often than not he does end up falling asleep, but sometimes he’ll stay awake just so he can gently play with their hair or kiss their foreheads without them knowing
- logically beetlejuice knows they’re all dating, but when he overhears barbara call him her boyfriend when she’s chatting to delia it actually like kills him (in a good way) and he interrupts the conversation to give her a hug
-delia works out that they’re dating and her and barbara chat about it over coffee in the mornings. nobody tells charles because they all assume that he knows. SIX WHOLE MONTHS after they get together, they discover this is not true and he had no idea, he just thought maybe ghosts were more comfortable with Touchy Stuff and was too polite (awkward) to say anything
-obviously they don’t spend every waking second together; adam likes to work on his model alone, barbara does quiet (meaning no beetlejuice allowed) yoga with delia sometimes and she likes to garden alone, beetlejuice spends a good amount of his time either harassing lydia or harassing people WITH lydia
-but secretly they all look forward to dinner because after dinner, regardless of who else joins them, they all squeeze up on the couch that barely fits three people and just cuddle each other. beetlejuice likes when lydia forces them to watch psychological thrillers because 1) he can appreciate good screenplay when he sees it 2) adam and barbara are terrified and always hide their faces, usually by burying them into his chest or shoulders and he really loves this
i hope this is what you were looking for? if you wanted anything more specific please say so!! and i will do it after work!
Breakthroughs - II
Set after the events of Breakthroughs - Kara has to deal with her pregnancy and learn how to not be a superhero for a while. Alex has to come to terms with her own emotional baggage.
Downstairs everyone seems happy to see her — well, except for Alex.
“You’re late.” Her sister says in lieu of a greeting.
“I know.” Only by five minutes, but to Alex that doesn’t seem to matter. “Wanted to say a proper goodbye to the city before reporting in.”
“Which you wouldn’t have to do if you hadn’t gone and gotten yourself—”
“Pregnant?” Kara started out the night with every intention to be civil, but Alex doesn’t seem to share her goal. So be it, then. “Alex we’ve gone over this already and I told you why—”
“Yes, and I don’t care to hear about it yet again.” Alex cuts in, throwing a clipboard on the table between them. It lands with a clatter and papers flutter everywhere. “Sign these forms, hand in your comm device and then go. We’ve got work to do here.”
“Alex—”
“No, Kara.” Alex pushes the papers forward. “I don’t want to hear how much you’ll miss this, because if you did you’d have thought about those that depend on you a little more!”
You would have thought about me. Alex doesn’t go that far, but Kara reads it in her eyes.
“Fine.” She grabs the pen Nia’s holding out to her so hard the plastic cracks. It’s a miracle it doesn’t snap in two. Everyone is staring at her — at Alex — and Kara comes to the slow realization they’ve been screaming at each other. Lowering her eyes to the paperwork gives Kara an excuse to avoid looking any of them in the eye. She can feel pity rolling off of them in waves, and she couldn’t bear to see it.
Coming alone was a terrible idea. In fact, she should not have come at all.
