honestly it looks like rick never really expects anyone he flirts with to flirt back. he's really just doing it for show. but when he does get something positive back, especially from someone he actually likes, he doesn't know what the fuck to do because he's never gotten that far with someone and on the inside he'd be a big lovey-dovey mess

Marioverse fluffcanon

Sometimes little pi'illo children would beg to play with Prince Dreambert, and he would always politely accept and they would start playing follow the leader; of course, with Dreambert being the leader. They would walk around the island, singing "follow the leader", and more and more pi'illos would join in, until eventually all of the pi'illos were together in a long, laughing, singing line that would snake around the island until they exhausted their energy.
