London’s Flying Ibex is a super groovy reggae-influenced experimental-indie rock band, and Habits is their second full length album.

My first memory of Colin Somervell is from Fengaros music festival (Cyprus) 2012. Colin's beautiful double bass talent and his calming human essence was amongst good friends playing his huge part in the Trio Tekke sound and Fengaros' community spirit. As a bass player he displays a maturity, supportive sensitivity and wholesome energy beneficial to any musical scenario. Completely capable and endowed with complex abilities on both acoustic and electric bass his keen ear and highly skilled conceptual musicianship fills the bottom end with only the necessary, allowing the compositions and other sounds to glow to their full potential. We have laughed about it but in reality jokes usually contain much truth. The addition of Colin Somervell is the best thing that's happened to Flying Ibex in a long time. He truly unifies the bridge between the rhythm and harmony with masterful artistry and smooth flowing solidity.

Nat was the first of the Keen brothers I met. We were out jobbing together, playing a background jazz gig in a little restaurant in Old street. His sound palette and feel stuck out to me and I immediately knew that there was more to him than this scenario permitted. No mistake there. Nathaniel Keen's affinity for sound and the almost child-like explorative nature of his creative outlook allow him to stretch way further than his instrument's usual use claims to confine. Splashing sound walls with quickly tailored abstractions he is just as comfortable with adding impressionistic waves to compositions on any instrument with sonic scope. Able to deeply cultivate multifaceted atmospheres of silent space as much as the frenetic tension-release of interlocking repetitions. After serving a good stretch on bass, Flying Ibex's new line up with Colin Somervell puts these skills of Nat's to its advantage; including the unique live vocal tracking effect that his brotherly clone tone with Barnaby consents.

I was first drawn to Barnaby Keen's song-writing when I saw his old band School Of Imagination play at The Gladstone pub in Borough, I guess it was 5 or 6 years ago now. I was extremely moved by the lyrical content of the songs, inspired by their melancholic joy and quickly became a fan. I made myself known. It all happened pretty fast but next thing I knew I was living with him in a converted Chapel in Nunhead and playing in what was to develop in to his new band. The constantly evolving pace of his beautiful writing had us constantly playing catchup with new material, battling with our overwhelmed excitement. The only certainty was that the songs were satisfying extremely high standards of our musical desire and we wanted to be a part of their journey wherever it was that they they were heading. We recorded a number of songs in the Chapel captured in its unique and naturally reverberating sonic environment, although only some of them have seen the light of day. Eventually a working trio stuck for a period playing songs that were to be Flying Ibex's 2nd record "Habits". But Barnaby's progression began to hit gold when he produced and performed bunch of tracks with a very minimal low-fi set up all on his own. "Travel In Dangerous Places" is testament to one of his biggest talents, his lateral thinking. Confirming that musical content runs king over the prestige of state of the arts equipment and polished productions. Bedtime Stories episode3 on April 16th features the new Flying Ibex line up. Nathaniel Keen, Colin Somervell and myself heading in yet a further evolution of Barney's wondrous composing direction.
