"You left your books here."

That's not true, actually. They weren't really Flynn's books until this morning, when Oz got in the shipment of donations, saw the ones that looked like they'd be up the other's alley, and intentionally set them aside. Even one that maybe Oz wanted. But when he's taken a liking to someone, he can (at least sometimes) put them before himself.

"Gets pretty cluttered when you don't take all your books with you, Flynn... thought I was teaching you better than that." And then the smallest smirk that gets past the deadpan.

Elizabeth did not know how to fix it. The way he cursed and took steps away from her simple and chaste kiss, it was supposed to be on the cheek, but ended up accidentally being on his lips after his 'fuss', about playing with his hair. ❛ I just… I ⏤ Sorry. ❜ And she felt genuinely bad for it.

"I'm so sorry, I should have asked. I was going to ask, but then my body moved before my mouth could - I mean, my mouth moved, just not to make words and I..." He sighed, sinking his teeth into his lower lip as he looked over Flynn. "I'm sorry if I crossed a boundary, there. I didn't mean to make this awkward." He was a few drinks in already, and he could handle his alcohol but apparently he didn't have a grip on all of his inhibitions. "I wanted to do that for a while, but I thought it was pretty unprofessional to ask your fellow detective for a kiss. I still should have asked now." That issue didn't exist anymore, at least. But he could've completely misread the situation now. Clark had barely confirmed their friendship status, let alone anything else. "Let me buy you that drink." He chuckled awkwardly, cheeks somewhat flushed as he motioned to the bartender to ask for a refill on both of their drinks.

"This wasn't me, Flynn." The first words out of his mouth as he saw the other approach were defensive, because he knew exactly what this could look like. And of course someone would catch him in front of the pool of blood he found before he could investigate or call it in. Clark didn't know whether to be thankful or worried that it was Flynn who had found him there next to the blood. Would he believe him? If roles were reversed, he would believe the other but only because he didn't believe Flynn really had it in him to injure someone so badly that they'd leave this much blood behind, at least, not in anything other than self-defence in the line of duty. "I don't know whose it is, or how it got here. I'm working a case, it led me to this parking lot and then... this. Somehow, I don't think this one is going to have a good ending." A pause, and a small step towards the other, "You believe me, right?"

"Just hear me out. I'll pay, if you go over there and grab us some of that chicken-on-a-stick. The smell's been haunting me all day, and I think I need fuel if I'm going to walk more." Oz has settled into a chair at a little table with an umbrella, his clothing a bit brighter than his usual garb, and maybe a bit more revealing. "I mean, you can get whatever you want from their truck... if you get me chicken on a stick."

He's been doing so fucking well. One forearm crutch for short distances - and yeah, maybe he has to lean heavily into it, maybe he has to take a lot of breaks... but he's holding himself up. He's walking, with one hand free. Oz feels fucking competent, for once. Despite everything, he's getting better. Maybe he can go back to his old job. Maybe he can get his life back.

Until he falls. And no one's in the damn bookstore. There's no one to call, and he's out of breath, and... christ. He's going to be there for ages.

It's been about seventeen minutes of struggling when...

"Flynn. You're... my fuckin' hero." Oz admits with an embarrassed laugh. "Can you hold my hand and... fuck. Can you help me up... you might have to carry me."

"It's probably the most influential special effects movie and no one talks about it. It's all puppets and costumes. Every single thing." Oz normally doesn't get passionate about movies, but Dark Crystal has a special place in his cold little heart. There's popcorn in a bowl on the coffee table, with two glasses of wine. His apartment is a bit small, but cozy - and he's already lifted himself up from his wheelchair to sit more comfortably up on the sofa. He tucks his legs up gingerly, using his arms to help. "But keep in mind... 1980. Shit's gonna look a little funky. And... a bit scary." Legs ease to stretch out. "You uh... is it alright if I kinda drape them over your lap?" The tiniest grin as he asks something maybe a little bit embarrassing, but. He's excited to watch something with Flynn. Do something away from the Atheneum, and show him one of his favorites.
