— BIOGRAPHY
Clark has lived in New York City all his life, brought up by two loving parents as an only child. Often, when he was a young boy, they would make the trip to LA to see his fathers brother and their two children. The boy felt close to his cousins, like they were brothers, but even at a young age Clark was wary of Mathias. He loved him like a brother, but that didn't mean that even at a young age he saw a darkness that he couldn't make sense of. When his cousin Ezekiel died, they stopped visiting so much. Only every now and then, never more than once a year. His parents claimed that the family needed time together on their own to heal from what had happened, and being so young Clark didn't understand enough to question it. Then his aunt and uncle died, in very similar circumstances to their son, and Clark was old enough then to understand that something had happened with Mathias. He wasn't told the details. It wasn't until he got to the police academy, when he did a little investigation for himself into the cases, that he realised what had truly happened and where Mathias had gone. His cousin had killed his own brother and parents. In Clark's mind, only a true monster could do that. When he learned that Mathias had surfaced in New York City, he kept close tabs on his cousin. Wherever he went, bodies seemed to drop. There was absolutely no pattern to it, and so he drew his own conclusions. Whatever they were, he knew one thing: He had to find Mathias, and he had to stop him. Clark managed to work his way up after the police academy, making it to Detective. It gave him the freedom he needed to look at case files he presumed Mathias had involvement in, track the movements and the kills. He became obsessed. It was detrimental to his work, often focusing too much on Mathias rather than his own actual cases he had to work. He got a tip one day on where Mathias could be, so instead of working the case with his partner like he was supposed to, he followed the tip. His partner ended up getting hurt in the line of duty because he didn't have the back up that Clark would have provided had he been there. Of course, his partner was none other than the Chief of Police's nephew, Flynn Halliday, and that meant he had reached his last strike and he was kicked off the force. It was then that he started Cain Investigations - taking on cases when he had a need for cash, and spending the rest of his time and resources on once again tracking down Mathias.
