Now onto Isaac’s night creatures! Unfortunately we don’t have renders/model sheets for all of them, especially not online, but;
Here we have Queen B! Shoutout to her, she got the most hits on Carmilla out of any night creature, and seems a rather speedy hit-and-run sort;
This snake may or may not be the Grootslang... I can’t tell, there’s another night creature candidate coming up that could contest this. Regardless, I love this dude and his spear, and his surprising amount of speed with just a snake tail to slither on!
This demon I like to call Baphomet, sometimes Bapho for short; This name is fairly self-explanatory, and his giant cleaver blade is one of the coolest things ever. I love giant cleaver blades;
Here is our next potential candidate for the Grootslang... I liked this night creature and it pained me to see Legion kill it, especially since it never appears afterwards, not even in the background! This night creature deserved better... It kind of reminds me of a weasel ngl, like the designer just played with how long and slippery they are and made it an actual furry snake.
Next we have Isaac’s faithful Abada! For some reason it’s completely absent in Season 4, even though we see it alive and well after the defeat of Legion. Unless we have an explicit onscreen death, I’m going to assume Abada is alive, especially with our next night creature coming up.
Flyseyes really stole the show, and I loved his little arc! It was compelling to see the show humanize night creatures in Flyseyes, and I love the idea of him becoming an advisor and second opinion to King Isaac. With Flyseyes’ story, I have to wonder about the human lives of other night creatures, what were they like, and how much do they remember?
Anyhow, I wish we got to see this dude fight, or at least be in the background during a battle- Flyseyes ended his first conversation with a menacing promise to kill, only to never do so onscreen, which was a bit disappointing. Given how he was absent in the fight against Legion, only to pop up later just fine, and alongside Abada I’m inclined to think Flyseyes is alive and well, and exploring his own fluid nature alongside Isaac.
Finally we have Abel! Abel speaks for himself here. There’s a hilarious anecdote in the art book about how the animators looked for gameplay videos online to get a reference for the back of Abel’s head, but failed to find any- Sometimes, a health bar was blocking their view! But they nevertheless figured it out.
There’s technically one more night creature of Isaac’s with an online model sheet, but it deserves its own post!
