acting, as it turns out, ended up being something joohwan excelled at. in spite of being an idol and being expected to venture into more than one field, being complete rather than being excellent at one thing only, hwan had admittedly always focused more on his dancing. it was his preference, a comfortable place for him to be in, and after years of applying himself into this activity in particular, it wasn’t in his interest to bust his ass in order to learn something else. since his trainee years, of course, joohwan had been minimally trained in vocals as well as his rapping, but he didn’t necessarily rate them. he did what he was asked to do, was never offering anything more and his position as just as sub-vocal was enough proof of that. ever since he started acting, however, when he got a minor role in a musical, the boy had found something else that amused him, another activity he could see himself enjoying. he wasn’t good enough to be cast in proper movies and more serious dramas, so a coming of age, terribly dramatic and borderline childish show was what he’d been offered, but it was a lead role anyway, and joohwan had believed he could do something with what was written in the script.
together with andante had come thalia ghim. being an idol and not being a social hermit had made it so that of course he had known the girl. member of the most famous girl group currently, joohwan had expected her to be as air headed and naïve as BC entertainment painted WISH’s members to be. instead, he’d met someone who managed to get on his nerves more often than anyone else in his life. the boy hadn’t liked her from day one – not a rare occurrence when it came to nam joohwan – and it had only gotten worsen to the point where hwan honestly believed the cold war between them would translate into the screen and they’d never have to see each other again after the show tanked. surprisingly, even with the average performance of the drama, people had overall enjoyed their characters and their tragic relationship. it was all due to their groups’ names attached to their own, joohwan knew, but it still didn’t explain how, almost five months since the drama finished airing, the two of them had been scheduled for a photoshoot together. click after click of the camera, joohwan tried to keep his face impassive as he followed the photographer’s directions. a spread about idols who played couples in dramas, something that’d be great to promote him outside of his group, according to his manager. it wasn’t enough of a reason to make a night spent with thalia a pleasant affair.
sharing a dressing room as other people were being shot, joohwan leaned over the side of the folding screen that did a terrible job at keeping them separate. “ can you stop doing that thing where you hold onto my shoulder so i can lean down a bit and you can look taller than me? you are already wearing heels ! ”
