120mm film images from Tenerife - Taken on a Yashica Mat medium format camera.
Final project self evaluation.
Contact sheets of my 120mm film shoot wirh masks for my final piece. I will use these contact sheets to pick out my favourite images.
‘Jake’ DSLR studio shoot evaluation:
I did this shoot as a follow up of my previous shoot on 35mm film. I chose to do a similar shoot again with the same model because I wanted to produce higher resolution images from which I could create more ambitous and clear surreal-edits. Shooting digitally also allowed allowed me to ensure that my focusing and use of depth of field was perfect, something which I struggled with when shooting on film in my previous shoot. I believe this digital follow up of my film shoot was successful as I acting on my previous mistakes and found a solution to remedy them. I am glad to have both digital and film images because they both have pros and cons, from which I have tried to get the best of each medium.
I am happy with my images, they show the subject in very good clarity which meant I had a lot of information to play around with when creating my edits. The high resolution aided the seemless look I was going for when creating my images showing over-lapping facial features.
A self-critism carried forward from my previous shoot is that I should diversify my images by utilising more interesting backgrounds; this is something I will address and focus on in my next photoshoot.
A digital collage in Photoshop CC - using complimenting colours to create a surreal image.
To make the eyes in this image I drew shapes using the free-form pen tool and then combined the shapes in to one, adding a gradient of pink and white on the right and blue, pink and white on the left. I chose these colours because they compliment the colours in the background of the jellyfish that I chose. To finish I added a gradient adjusrment layer on the models face of blue and pink, reducing the opacity to create a subtle hue.
To create a more graphic feel to the photo I drew a square around the edge.
These are my final images, printed and mounted on foam board ready to be put up on the wall for the end of porject exhibition. I chose for them to be printed this size to ensure that the audience could easily see all three images at the same time, which is neccessary because they all connect together.
‘Sharpness Docks’ DSLR shoot evaluation:
I am happy with the outcome of this photoshoot. I chose early evening to catch the sunset which produced some nicely coloured images, which added to the surreal effect as the sky is not usually that colour.
I produced a wide variety of images and had a lot of material to create edits from. The mirrored surreal edits I produced worked effectively on this shoot becaise the images consist of a lot of geometric lines which compliment the mirroring effect.
