Gloins Small Axe : Back on track.
Hi Guys, we left off where I had used the thin foam strips to create the ‘head’ design and this needed to be ‘blended’ to the main body. I first used the dremel tool to ‘round’ the edges as I have done with all the edges ( see previous pics ).
Having used the dremel tool to blend the edges a bit more I took the ‘DAP Kwik seal shown in the pic, an artists trowel shown and some ordinary water. Squeeze some of the Kwik seal around anywhere there are gaps / holes around edges
Here you can see it can be a bit messy but it all works out, if the trowel doesn’t do it for you just use your finger to rub the kwik seal into any gaps or holes anywhere on the project as shown.
Once that’s done just wet your finger and rub the stuff all over, this smooths it out a bit more whilst helping it to sink into any cracks gaps or cut marks etc. the idea is to try for a smooth finish before we go to the Plasti Dip coating which I will do once this is dry and I have gently sanded it all over. Will try to have the next step done within the next few days, trying to get back to normal a.s.a.p. thanks to those of you still hanging in there, hope you have enjoyed this set and that it helps you to move on with your own project. more to come, watch this space and stay crafty.
The axe is almost done. It's made from a cardboard tube and eva foam floor mats. The handle is covered in craft foam that was marked with a soldering iron.
