I think I have finally figured out what I am going to do for my Mask for the Museum of Art at Fort Collins Exhibition. It has been a challenge to come up with an idea. Of course, I don’t know how the final mask will come out but I am finally ready for the adventure. I need your help. I am looking for old cameras, lenses, and any photography accessories. Cameras do NOT need to work. I welcome donations of: Old cameras-vintage, digital, film working or broken- the quality of cameras is not important. Disposable cameras- working or just the shells Old film canisters Photography straps I am happy to pick up any donations. Donations needed by Saturday, November 16, 2019. The sooner the better. Thank you for helping me create my vision for this year’s mask. My travels in and around Southern Africa have influenced me creatively in so many ways, with my photography, art, relationships and teaching. My most personal work that I feel proud to begin to share begins with this series of portraits. The lovely and truly amazing women of Namibia allowed me to photograph them using a concept I had been trying to actualize for a while. I discuss this in a bit more detail in a recent podcast interview with photographer Liam Douglas. You can hear me discuss that around the 1:05:40 mark in Episode 14 http://www.liamphotographypodcast.com/ The fabric I used as a backdrop is one of my favorites and not only is it great for portraits but it has also been a big influence in this year’s mask which I will begin to reveal in upcoming posts. #africaninspired #fabric #texture #africanprint #focart #thisisliving #Photography #Travel #Africa, #Zimbabwe, #education #SoulSights #Photography #Travel #portrait #fortcollins #namibia #b2gold #nofilter https://www.instagram.com/p/BwDO0NnAmkD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=7ykhsbijaiq7

Secret #4- I scanned in images of African fabric for my mask. I love collecting fabric and although I operating a sewing machine is a bit out of my skill set, I cannot resist vibrant African fabrics. Initially, I thought I might cover my mask using fabrics from my collection but as I began to cut stripes for my collage I couldn’t bear it. Despite not having set plan for the fabric I continue to buy yards of fabric whenever possible. the loss of even a few inches of material didn’t sit well with me. Primarily, I use the fabric for backdrops with subjects who personality matches the mood and style of the fabric. Scanning in the fabric became a more comfortable alternative for me and allowed me to play and explore without the feeling I was about to destroy my gorgeous assortment of textiles. Please join me Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 6pm to hear more stories behind my 2018 mask at the Museum of Art Fort Collins. Register online and reserve your ticket. https://moafc.org/event/mask-artist-lecture/ I am looking forward to seeing friendly faces in the audience. #mask #focmasks #moafc #africaninspired #fabric #texture #africanprint #focart #thisisliving #Photography #Travel #Africa, #Zimbabwe, #education, #SoulSights #JillPMottphotography
