BESTIE I gotta know — do you think Travis gave Laura her eyepatch, or that he came down to see her & Max and she'd just fabricated one for the time being? What was Travis' reaction when he saw her for the first time with an eyepatch on? ( bonus question if you don't mind; what was his reaction to see the bandage across her eye for the first time after he left her alone with Max? )
MOST. DEFINITELY. BESTIE!
Whether it was seeing her with one she made herself or with bandages time and time again, he must've given the one she has later on to her. It's the least he could do after bringing this upon her (plush, he wants to make sure she has one that is hygienic enough to keep her wound intact and clean). The first time he saw her with an eyepatch on, I'm sure it was a little bittersweet to him. Sure, Laura definitely rocks the look and his heart probably skip a beat or two while staring, but the connotation, the backstory behind it, everything it represents is a result of the recklessness of Travis' actions, how extreme he can get just to prove a point (or try to save). So he does like how she looks with it, but he doesn't like the fact that this was caused by him and that she is probably having a harder time than she lets on.
AND ALWAYS ASK EVERYTHING I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER! The first time he saw her with bandages he was definitely guilt-stricken. He feels extremely bad about it because that's not what he was aiming for. He wanted her to see, but at a supposed safe distance. He thought maybe that way she'd get how horrible, how scary it was to face the people you know and care about when they aren't truly themselves. He wanted her to understand the curse, not be hurt by it. So, he softens up a little, he acts gentler in hopes of trying to make things better. And he expects her to treat him worse than before, to be distant and maybe insult him more. He definitely wants to apologize, and he wants to scold Max, despite knowing full-well he was not at fault. But, damn it does he want to blame that fuck-up on someone else if even for a bit, just to feel a little better about himself. In the end, he doesn't. He doesn't apologize or wrongfully scold Max, he knows who the real culprit is and he knows this culprit wants to make things right, and that's not the way to go about it. Actions. Actions speak louder than his words, always.
So, he is a little more considerate; he helps her with the ointment whenever she allows him to, and makes sure she keeps the wound as clean as possible. Maybe, just maybe, once they're free from the curse, he can find the strength to apologize to her, as she deserves. And maybe, just maybe, she will forgive him for it some day.
