it's a vicious cycle. running into the water to cool down, trudge their way back to lay out and dry off, get too hot... rinse and repeat. ( but that's not to say he minded the routine they've fallen into for the better part of their day, ) there's a soft smile on his lips as the pair relax side by side on their designated towels getting all sandy. elbows keep him on his stomach while she's on her back —— and every movement he makes is languid. slow and lazy. soaking up the sun had made him tired.

and the ache in his shoulders is familiar —— a burnt sort of problem from skipping out on the last reapply session that he's decided is tomorrow's problem. ( boldly ignoring it, ) as his hand was stretched out to idly brush over the tan line he found on her hip. once hidden behind the string keeping bottoms intact, little piece of fabric now pushed up in order to make room for a roaming index finger. he's watching the mindless action like it's the most interesting or hottest thing in the world— tracing and tracing and following the pale strip curving up the bone, or maybe he's just that fucking zoned out... probably a bit of both. there's waves crashing in the distance, there's a cooler full of drinks and ice he could use as a refresher; but all he wants to do is look at her.

after a long stretch of silence, that hand finally fell down equally as lazy to give her thigh the most gentle of smacks. ( careful, in case she's following the same toasted path as him. ) ❛❛ roll over, lemme put some more sunscreen on your back. ❜❜
