Experimenting with font weights

Whilst designing my second spread, I wanted to experiment with different font weights and sizes. I started off with the ‘body’ part of the text thinner, however I felt it would make more of a statement if I was to increase the weight and thickness of the font.

I much preferred the thicker, bolder font version to the one on the right as I felt it drew even more attention to the word body. It also meant that my book displayed how font weight can effect visual hierarchy just as much as font size can.

hi! i was setting up my nav page and i noticed the about and following tab's text seemed to be a bit blurred, any way to fix that? thanks! ^.^

the lines of the text are too thin, causing them to appear blurred. so you might want to make them bold or change the font-weight to like 300 or 400

otherwise, a different font would also work :)

You know you've been working in a bookstore for a good period of time when a co-worker can say "the font is very Penguin Classics circa 2003" and know exactly what they're talking about. The book in question was a very specific edition of The Hobbit that we received in anticipation of the 75th Anniversary (THIS FRIDAY! Everyone should drink tea and eat good food in celebration!) and Part 1 of Hobbit films.

(Penguin Classics do have very specific font weights depending on the year they were released. Those published within the last few years are much sharper and thinner whereas those circa early 2000s or older are much thicker.)
