Kensei Muguruma (Bleach) - Oneshot: Extra 2
Kensei was used to your visits to the Soul Society.
When he heard, he’d decided to join you at the gate. Shinji had only tagged along to be irritating. For the most part the blond captain just complained about Hiyori kicking him around whenever he got to Karakura.
For a while he was willfully ignoring him, that’s until he felt it.
That familiar chaotic reiatsu.
Shinji grinned.
“You might want to be careful. If Kenpachi has found her she might fall for him instead.”
The snide remark earned a glare, and Kensei disappeared. Shinji laughed, following behind. The next time they landed, Kenpachi was indeed standing before you with his sword raised and a grin on his lips. Yachiru on his shoulder cheering him on.
“Kenny, apparently she likes rugged guys! If you go on a date with her she’ll fight you.”
The statement agitated Kensei. There was a part of him that understood, because he remembered how you acted when you first met him.
Maybe that’s why he’d stopped.
He expected your expression to change, or at the very least he thought you would draw your sword that was hanging on your shoulder in the case. But nothing changed, you just stood there with a neutral look on your face.
“You’re annoying.”
That’s all you said, and it looked like you were about to take off, but you stopped. You looked as if you felt something, and when he blinked, you were at his side.
“Muguruma-san.”
Shinji just laughed, because it’s obvious that you’d planned to leave, but you felt his spiritual pressure and jumped right over.
“We’ll be reporting to the Head Captain, no fighting today.”
Shinji said with a wave.
Yachiru puffed her cheeks, and Kensei glared before you all took off.
Kenpachi hadn’t followed, so you were all now walking through the Seireitei. Shinji was at the front with a grin, hands in his robes. You were walking in step with Kensei.
“He’s quiet.”
You couldn’t tell what was wrong. But obviously you’d done something to annoy him.
“Sorry, Muguruma-san. I didn’t mean to cause a commotion.”
That was the first time you’d met the fight crazed captain. Everyone told you stories, so you’d always been somewhat careful. You reach for the sleeve of his robes with a tug, continuing your apology.
“I will be better about…”
Your words trailed off, because when he turned, he was actually.
“Blushing..”
He still wore a glare, but his cheeks were flushed.
He looked away, taking your hand gently.
“It’s fine.”
He just kept walking, your fingers now interlocked, and you couldn’t help it, you just followed with an equally flushed expression.
A hopeless couple.
While there were days he could read you perfectly, there were times he wished he could do more. He wasn’t ignorant, and he supposed you did your best to cover it when those moments hit. The reminders of a past you had no memories of.
The first time he noticed, it was raining. He’d dropped by Karakura to deliver some supplies to Urahara and convey reports as well as check in on Hiyori. On his way back he was going to spend a few days with you until he had to head back.
When the rain started, he paid no mind, he just tracked your reiatsu and he found it easily, fully expecting you to pick up on his. He was standing right at the top of a pole when he saw you, and he prepared for you to notice his presence, but you didn’t.
You were standing at the side of the road, next to a tree, staring at it with an emptiness in your eyes that made his gut twist. He could almost feel it, your pain. Maybe it was a reflex, but he appeared right at your side and the second you saw him, your expression changed.
There was a new softness in your eyes, and you smiled at him in a way that almost made him forget that pained expression, but he couldn’t.
That’s probably when Kisuke realized that he was moping. It didn’t take a genius to guess why. That’s why he’d told him.
“The night I found her it was quite a harsh time. She was soaked to the bone covered in blood with nothing but her sword in hand and bruises all over her body. It looked as if she’d been fighting for decades. “
That could have very well been true. It was clear then that you somehow came from Hueco Mundo. But that was all he knew and it was killing him because he couldn’t give you any closure, or help you in any way that would matter.
The next visit had been weighing on his mind. As the heavy droplets hit against the glass, he did his best, but he saw the way you weren’t truly yourself. You seemed to be smiling more than you usually did. Like you were trying hard to pretend that the sight of rain wasn’t almost as crippling as having no idea where you came from.
Finally it felt like too much.
“It’s okay to be angry.”
He sounded pissed, and when he stood with his arms folded, you understood that he’d seen through it all. You closed your eyes, smiling.
“I’m sorry.”
It was all you could really do. When he looked over at you, he still wore a glare, and you finally relented, lowering your head.
“I remember.”
Two words, that’s all it took.
Suddenly the looks all made sense.
“A few weeks ago, I remembered.”
Going back, he realized that it must have been that day that he saw you standing at that tree.
“Aizen he…he left me to die. I was a failed experiment. Ironic, isn’t it.”
You laughed, but it held no humor, just pain.
At that moment, he seemed to grasp the height of it.
“I’m sorry that I become like this when the rain falls. It’s pathetic isn’t it?”
Your attention moved to the window, maybe to save some face. You were still wearing that smile, just to mask your pain.
“I’m sor-”
“Stop apologizing.”
You stopped short, now very aware of the irritated look on Kensei’s face. For a moment you thought he was mad at you, but as he got closer, you supposed it became obvious that his annoyance was with the lack of control on both sides.
He couldn’t change your past and you couldn’t just act like it never happened.
“There’s nothing I can do about what’s already happened.”
You looked up, and something in the atmosphere changed. Because there was something different in those usually stoic brown eyes. The last step he took backed you up against the wall.
“I’ll make sure every time it rains, all you think about is us.”
You weren’t offered much context, and when he leaned down and pulled you into a soft kiss, you supposed you didn’t need any. His lips felt amazing, and when he held you, all you could think about was that moment. How safe you felt. Somehow he’d spotted every past fear and worry and banished it.
Your grip tightened into the sleeve of his robes, and when he finally pulled away, you let out a staggered breath. You stumbled, and he held you as you practically held onto him for stability, because the kiss had not ended there. His lips moved to your cheek, neck, shoulder.
“K-Kense-”
He kissed you again, and this time, when your knees buckled, he picked you up effortlessly. You couldn’t truly process anything, not until he flash stepped into your room. When he pulled back this time, he lowered you to the bed, watching that expression on your face. You sank into the sheets, pressing your knees together as you stared up at his hooded eyes.
“Kensei..”
“Can I?”
Your body quivered, and you nodded eagerly, watching in awe as he shed his captain’s cloak easily. He joined you on the bed, fingers interlocked, pressed against the sheets as he kissed you.
At that very moment, it seemed to work.
Because all you could think about was him.

“M-Muguruma-san..”
Clearly it had been unintentional.
Somehow that one experience had a similar effect on Kensei, because every time the rain fell after, you’d indeed forgotten about the unpleasantness. All you would hear was the sound of thunder, even the flash of lightning and your cheeks would grow a vibrant shade of red.
That wasn’t the only thing.
If you happened to be with Kensei, well, clearly he’d have similar thoughts and it would have a very different reaction.
“M-Muguruma-san, w-we’re in your office…”
“I’m the captain, they know better than to come in here without my permission.”
That was his reasoning for having you sprawled out on his desk as he looked down at you with that heated gaze. Your heart was racing, and all of it just melted away the minute his lips were once again on your own.
It seems his master plan worked better than either or you expected.
