How Far I’ll Go by Meggie and Mia Ugly (Canon Compliant Nina West/Monet X Change) 

“At first I skimmed over this fic but once I decided to give the first chapter a go I think I read all of them at once. It is an extremely clever and thoroughly planned telling of what would happen if Nina and Monet hooked up after the S11 finale then just so happened to have to spend an entire season of All Stars together. The whole thing is just amazing and made me fall in love with Ninex immediately. Nina’s awkward nature and feelings of self-doubt along combined with her pining for Monet is just sooo relatable and a pure joy to read. The background Branjie is also extremely gripping and works so well as an addition to Nina’s story, perfectly entwined with her own feelings about her performance on S11 so it never comes off as just something shoved in to make up time. I know they’re busy ladies and don’t want to pressure them to write but I know that they deserve love for what they’ve written of the story already and should know I’m more invested in their AS5 than I was for the actual season once it aired.”

Nina didn’t like scary movies.

Hated them in fact...but Monet had invited her. It was supposed to be this fun stress relieving thing. All the queens were exhausted from non stop shows, and were running on fumes. If you asked Nina, a scary movie was the opposite of stress relieving. But Monet had asked her to come. Asked her specifically.

So how could she say no?

It started off fine. It was your everyday run of the mill horror movie about a white couple moving into a haunted house and ignoring all the signs that something bad was going to happen. Nina was fine. It helped that Monet was sitting next to her reading every character for filth. 

But then the haunted shit started happening.

Jump scares came left and right for a solid five minutes. Nina gave up after the first one, burying her face in her hands. She was trying to block out the screaming, when she felt a hand entwine with her own.

“You don’t like these kinda movies do you?”

Nina shook her head.

“Why didn’t you tell me? We coulda seen somethin else!” Monet scolded lightly.

“I didn’t want to ruin everyone’s fun.”

“Who said anything about inviting anyone else?” Monet gave her a wink. 

Nina melted.

All of a sudden, someone started screaming on screen again. Nina winced at the sound, and Monet got her attention with a whisper. “We’ll get through this. I promise.” 

Nina nodded slightly, and kept their fingers interlocked. She would squeeze Monet’s hand when something would jump out at them. Monet would take the cue and whisper something funny in her ear until Nina forgot she was scared.

They made it out of the theatre with the rest of the queens following, talking animatedly about the movie. Nina and Monet must have realized they were still holding hands at the same time, because when Monet went to drop her hand, Nina held fast.

She gave a nervous smile. “I don’t want to be alone right now. If that’s...ok?”

Monet laughed lightly. “I’m not going anywhere, babe.”

Nina tried to stop the butterflies in her stomach at the term of endearment, but the silly smile found its way to her face nonetheless.

So having never watched RPDR until about 3 weeks ago lockdown has done strange things to my brain and I have now binged... 6? 7? series, I went through the whole Branjie cycle of 'will they? are they? oh it's dead and we have to let it go, ok' in like 2 days. Without any of the lives and cryptic instagram comments. ANYWAY I could talk for hours about how much I love your fics but I was just wondering if there is/would ever be an ending to How Far I'll Go? *crosses fingers and toes*

Trying to write some Ninex and thought we should all just stop for a minute and acknowledge that Meggie and Mia Ugly literally pulled a seemingly random ship from the embers and made us all fall in love with it?? Like they really really did that. And it makes so much sense. Absolute trailblazers I salute them xoxo

I just don't think that derailing conversations about the fandon's anti-Black racism to talk about people writing two of the most frequently written about queens this season is something that's reading the room very well right now. That being said, shoutout to Ortega, Mistress, Moonshoot and Meggie for writing black queens pretty consistently.

I just wanted to put it out there how much I live the "How far I'll go " series and how much I would love to read a new chapter of it! I've gone though all the other ninex I could find and am now desperately waiting on new Ninex. Actually, I'll be happy about anything ninex to be honest...😅😅😅😅😅 But @meggie and @mia : You have created magic!

i just have to say that meggie’s incredible writing has made me completely fall in love with nina x monet! every time i see either a chapter from how far i’ll go or things you say i just wanna scream with excitement. i can’t thank or praise meggie enough 🙏🏻 i’d encourage other writers to try out writing nina x monet as well - such an interesting ship and i’d be excited to read anything new!

I know they’re very busy with life at the moment (and sending all my support to them for that!) but I keep having this recurring fantasy of seeing Kite, Meggie, and Mia in the queue again and absolutely blowing my mind! I love and miss them sm 😭❤️
