very few things better than making up a blorbo and putting them in a room with a dear friends made up blorbo.
migration
We crossed paths in the pages of a book
Two lonely children, you and I
We took shelter in our world of words,
And with time, we found refuge in each other
Our love for animals drew us out to the world beyond
And together our path led us down:
The void deck as we clambered in search for strays
Through the playground of our childhood days
Into separate classrooms divided by time and space
Across the unchanging, eternal summers
Yet still connected by the landline
Or our weekly Saturdays
Over the swelling crests and falls of our coming of age
As our bodies and minds shift to find their place
Weighed under the yoke of generational trauma
And as I have learnt, a thousand words unsaid
And yet my favourite paths led us down the boardwalk,
Within the liminal spaces of travel,
Into the quiet, blessed moments where the stars in our minds aligned
and our hearts beat as one, where burdens unravelled.
With a dozen silent footsteps trailing behind us
As we followed their stories through a kaleidoscope of universes and lifetimes
Mirroring and unfolding in tandem with our own
As they all coalesced into a tapestry of our own making
Before you know it, we have charted a map together like none other.
A vibrant topography awash in colour
Dotted aplenty with both landmarks of love and joy
As it is blotted with crossroads of pain and sadness
We have walked these roads for so long together
It has been difficult to imagine them apart
But our paths have diverged
And the road ahead is empty space
You told me once of the redwood trees,
Whose shoulders brushed and roots tangled together
To keep each other upright and strong
To brace and withstand through any weather
Now I’d like to tell you of the birds
Who made their home in the trees
As the leaves and branches gave them shelter
Till courage grew and spread their wings
Today, nature’s compass calls them to trace different horizons
It is a bittersweet goodbye
Yet they’ll always be connected through their shared roost
Its redwood roots an anchor, even as their wings bring them far away
You have your own tools now
And as I do mine
Your ink and parchment, needle and thread
Lessons upon lessons ad infinitum
So I know you'll be ok
And I know I will too
Even as I plunge into the unknown
I'll always hold a part of you
A thread that will always lead a passage back to us
Guided by the coordinates of love and friendship
Of trials and tribulations
Of understanding and knowing
And as the birds take flight
The redwoods remain
Yet not unchanged under the seasons’ grace
Withering and flowering and growing
Even though our paths now diverge
Maybe one day the sky will sing its homecoming
And our maps will lead us back
To see our roost anew in a new dawn
But if that day never comes,
Know I'll sing for you
For love, and peace, and ease abound
Without you I could not have braced the endless blizzards alone
Farewell my friend, my roostmate, my soul sister
Your birdsong will ring forever
Till I see you again
I know you’ll chart a map through the stars
