so, my dad is Jewish, and my mom isn’t. Both of my dad’s parents are Jewish and were so before he was born. We belong to a conservative synagogue (the denomination, not the political affiliation). Until a few years ago, we didn’t belong to any synagogue, but then I expressed interest in having a bat mitzvah and this synagogue was literally next door so of course we went there. They are fully aware that only my dad is Jewish. I had my bat mitzvah there. Until I had my bat mitzvah, we were pretty secular. No kosher, celebrated Christmas, didn’t observe any holidays, etc. but now I want to be more religious. Judaism feels like coming home. I want to start keeping kosher and going to services. So I guess my question is what denomination am I? None of my family really seems to know or care. I believe my Baba (dad’s mom) converted conservative at the same synagogue that I had my bat mitzvah at and now attend Hebrew school at, if that helps
Please refer to the Reddit flowchart too for questions about which denominations you'd be considered Jewish to.
