guys, the video above by eleanor stern is articulating what i’m trying to get at with my girlboss feminism post. (i would say that i feel a bit more strongly than eleanor does in that people - especially men - using the term “girlboss” in that slyly pejorative way IS actually sexist, but i’m not going to split hairs. i agree with what she’s saying in video!)
people will feel the way they feel about corporate feminism, and people will continue to discuss it and critique it (even though i strongly feel that there are far bigger fish to fry). but god, if so-called progressive people could retire using the term girlboss in the way they have increasingly wielded it in recent years to brand a woman in a business suit, simply existing and working in corporate america, that would be wonderful, thank you very much. it’s condescending, distasteful, and yes, sexist.
