Behold, the second piece I did for the Dragon Age Big Bang (@dragonagebigbang)! The story is up now, so time to show this one off!

For "Bookstack Tattoo" by Fundelstein on AO3, aka @the-study-of-fundelstein on Tumblr. I admit I'm always a sucker for some good FenHawke, and this was a fun chance to experiment a bit with how I rendered the whole piece.

Pencils but no inking, to keep it looking soft (and because the pencils turned out nicely), and then watercolor brushes for coloring. Lots of fun messing around with background details and doing my best at perspective (which was done piecemeal, thank you free transform). Next time I might have to draw the walls flat and then perspective-warp them as a whole, but it's whatever. I'm happy with it.

This is, I think, also my first foray into drawing modern-AU Dragon Age art. 😁

I especially had fun slipping a few references in because what else am I to do with background elements? Can you spot some of them?

I still kinda wonder why Essek didn’t just lie when Verrat asked him how he knew about the beacon.

Like as soon as he asked I was like,

“oh, that’s easy. Essek would just have to say that he spent the past few days investigating and actually found a lead on the beacon. He wasn’t sure if he could trust the source, but he was just told the beacon was being moved to the front lines. Rather than risk anything, he decided to instantly teleport to the location they claimed the beacon to be headed to verify.”

Like!! It’s Essek’s literal job to keep tabs on and solve the beacon mystery. He can side step knowing where it is to Verrat in that moment, then further build his story later. He has a reason to show up at a location where the damn KING and a “stolen weapon” would be. That’s big news!

Just kinda threw me off when Essek just looked away guiltily the moment he was confronted even a little. He really didn’t have to do that! Verrat saying that Essek showing up, terrified at the front lines, means he had to have stolen it is a leap in logic. There was an easy out for any half decent liar with a solid half truth here and a sense of plausible deniability there.

(But maybe that’s just me… I spent like half the day today forging fake doctor’s notes for multiple of my college classes. Sometimes I wanna skip a day or two, and I’ve got 4 different doctors notes from the past few years that I edit to match the occasion I need them.)

Well, loves, I'm afraid that Jack Wolfe and Hadestown have now destroyed me so please enjoy a renewed blog filled with those things.

But like, you give me the meaty goodness that is Hadestown (with all of the amazing performers who have already been in those roles)

And then you tell me that JACK WOLFE is gonna be singing Orpheus' tragic little heart out

And then you add it Morgan Dudley and expect me to NOT BECOME OBSESSED

How dare. HOW DARE.

I'm also months behind the times, as usual, because life. And I still need a good quality slime tutorial of the new cast. But until then AUDIO AND GIFS WILL FEED MY SOUL!

And I might ramble about all of the Hadestown deliciousness in general, who knows, life is also busy right now but GAH.
