Aura Classifications and Type Affinities

Aura has 5 classification levels

- locked - every human is born either with locked or passive aura abilities, the majority being locked. It would take extenuating circumstances to awaken the aura abilities of this person

- passive - most trainers have passive aura abilities. This ain’t to be mistaken with adept aura users. Passive abilities doesn’t include any ability to manipulate aura, merely a more active aura. The signs of this generally show themselves in the more capable of Pokémon wielders and trainers. having a certain aura presence can either attract or repel certain types of pokemon depending on the persons affinity and strength of that affinity.

- adept - or aura capable, a good example is Riley. Aware of their aura and capable of manipulating it to a certain extent. Not capable of wielding the elements through their aura.

- class 4 - this classification is a numbered step up from being adept, the capability of wielding the elements through aura and ———————

Type affinities (humans)

A Pokémon’s aura core naturally has an affinity/type which determines their actual typing. All pikachu have an Electrica aura core for example. This is aura converted into a type energy. Or an aura type.

All Humans have an or multiple affinities for a type. This makes it easier for them to control their element/s and communicate with/raise pokemon of the same affinity.

The process of converting aura into a type energy (for humans) is initially manual and slow, until a person does it enough to convert their own core of pure aura into a core that also reflects their affinities. Not dissimilar to a lucario with their core of pure aura and fighting energy as well as steel energy,

Leo is, of course, very outgoing, sociable and nice. However…sometimes there’s something OFF about him.

And everyone’s assumptions are right, it is because he’s a ghost type specialist.

There’s something about ghost affinities, and those who bond well with ghosts. Something unnatural and Other.

Every ghost trainer in history has been a little odd, a little different, a little weird. But Leo seems pretty normal at first glance. And for the most part he is, unlike most ghost trainers, he wasn’t socially isolated as a kid, he’s made connections and grown up happy and well loved.

However, there is a darker side to him that most don’t see. He can be a little obsessive of the people and items he calls HIS.

And his morals aren’t usually called into question because they’re not usually relevant, but let’s just say that if it came to choose between his brother and another person…that other person would burn in a heartbeat. No question and very, very little regrets.

And that whole creepiness factor that most ghosts specialist have? If you piss Leo off, he can be the definition of haunting.

Plastic smile that looks WrONg wRoNG WRoNg always directed at you. You could swear that he was looking at you, you could swear that he was grinning. That NotAPIkaChU pokemon was creaking and crackling when it turned towards you—it was. His shadow twitched, you could have sworn.

And goodness he wouldn’t actually harm someone unless they did something truly bad, but he’d never be above what you could consider poltergeist behaviour honestly. Getting his ghosts to move all your stuff a centimetre left, misplace a shoe or two.

But he can seriously be creepy if he feels like it. Even unintentionally sometimes. But again, you’d have to piss him off and that can be kinda hard unless you know the right buttons to push.

But if you were to HURT someone that is HIS.

One of my favourite little things about Pokémon Master Paul and his battle strategies is his proclivity to send out his hisuian zoroark disguised as his weavile.

And proceeds to command her to point-blank flamethrower their opponent.

Gets them every single time Lol, they always hesitate. Because no trainer has ever broken his zoroarks disguise, as far as they are concerned he has two weaviles, one can use fire type moves. and this is like a 20 year long joke.

he’s in too deep to go back now.

And anyone who has thought to scan his zoroark with a pokedex has had it give error messages because this pokemon isn’t in the system. (As it is a thought to be extinct variant)

So he just has an eldrich fire-breathing weavile as far as people are concerned

Without further ado

Gael is a junior researcher who is part of the JRP (junior researchers program). A program founded my some of the most senior researchers in their fields many years ago to encourage, fund, connect and inspire promising young children and adults in this profession. The program isn’t solely focused on pokemon research anymore, branching out over the years as more senior researchers join the program as mentors in their own fields, expanding the options to the younger generation.

Gael was struggling in school, before he got to leave on his journey. Not because it was difficult but because, to him, it was mind-numbingly boring. Gary realised he’d soon reach a breaking point and either A: act out or B: lose any motivation he may have to learn, if he didn’t step in. As a co-founder of the jrp, Gary was able to easily get a mentor for his son in the field that interests him and it snowballed from there.

So, at the tender age of 8, Gael fast tracked through as much of the curriculum as he could and settled on a deal with the jrp and the Pokémon league that he would essentially home-school. His future reports and progress through the jrp would be what meets his academic requirements as a trainer. If he keeps his English up to standard then they saw no reason why his reasearch wouldn’t meet the science, English and math requirements for children. With a sprinkle of online classes of the years to fill in a couple gaps.

When Gael is 15 (ish) the he enters the JRP’s connection program, where two junior researchers and a junior research assistant from somewhere in the world are paired together (manually paired by the JRP’s board who spend many months on the final decisions) .

Himself, Junior researcher Evelyn Griffith of unova and junior research assistant Vivianne Regan from Hoenn are ultimately the odd little trio that are paired together.

Gael has…some feeling about this. Not because he has anything against them, actually he finds them both to be very intelligent and decent enough company.

No, it’s because of Evelyn’s chosen area of study.

Evelyn wants nothing more than to uncover the secrets of the aura guardians and their lost civilisation.

And, as the son of two aura guardians who incidentally (due to time shenanigans and celebi) may have had a hand in CREATING said civilisation, he sometimes feels like a real heel. Because he has no choice but to hide the history from her, some things were never meant to be known. His Pa had buried those artifacts in those crypts all those centuries ago for a reason, and it would be chaos if they got into the wrong hands. And knowledge is power, team rocket and other mad groups run by madmen are bad enough, but if they knew how to control the elements and bend the very universe to their will? It would mean the end. Humans slowly lost the ability to access their aura for a reason, pokemon slowly grew out of their ability to channel their aura into every element and instead acclimatised and evolved into just 1 or 2.

And Evelyn’s drive to unearth everything has threatened to bring down decades of careful decisions and plans and centuries of sacrifice for a safer world.

So he’s had no choice but to sabotage her research as kindly as he can, make sure her trips turn up nothing. Confer with his parents to make sure artifacts aren’t where they should be.

But as a fellow researcher sometimes he can’t help but feel bad. One day, the world would have to be ready for the aura guardians. For his family and friends. But the world isn’t ready yet and the knowledge can’t get out like this. So he does what he must.

I’ve been a bit absent, life stuff, but I’ve been thinking about Gael. Funny enough, he’s one of my fav kiddos and one of the surprisingly complex ones. At first glance, he’s a fairly normal (albeit intellectually gifted) child in a family with a lot of issues.

His older brother Timothy has suffered great loss and needs all the support he can get. His twin brother is an empath and has always had issues with that. Especially when they were young. Fern had to have their parents constant attention to keep his ability under control.

And while Gael has never felt neglected, it’s easy for him to feel like the odd one out in the family.

He’s smart like Gary, but so is Tim- who just no longer has the will to apply it anymore. And genius is a double edged sword, there’s a lot of expectations that come with that title. People expect him to have answers when sometimes he really doesn’t. And he hates feeling like he has to live up to something beyond what he’s capable of.

And Tim is Gary’s favourite. Not in anyway that’s obvious or malicious, but Gary is fond and protective of Tim in a way that is different from all of them.

Fern is the most like their father, Drew. Who Gael is most definitely not like. He’s not creative or artsy in any way. And Drew is certainly closest to Fern than him and his other brothers.

And the youngest son and his little brother Tiago is the baby of the family. He already has their parents constant attention and devotion for that alone.

In a way, Gael is like the middle child of the family. Total middle kid syndrome.

Gael sometimes feels like he has to be the normal one. Tim is damaged, Fern is different and Tia is young. All three of his brothers, even without meaning to, have been the reason for lost sleep and their parent’s stress.

Gael feels like his parents deserve to have one child that isn’t a problem. Not that he sees his brothers as problems, but he knows how emotionally draining all his siblings issues can be, and though he’d never judge he understands how tired his parents can get.

This is something that he has honestly kept bottled up for a long time and at some point it does eventually come out, though I’m not entirely sure on those details yet.

But he feels like he has so many things to live up to.
