Does Kai still get sent to the Neverspace? The weird forbidden five prison? Whatever it’s called. Does Kai still get sent? Does The Forbidden Five find him unlike where he managed to stay hidden in the canon timeline? And what would his live reaction be to hearing what happened to Jay?
It is a weird name😂 It's called the Netherspace! (ninjago wiki says there's a hyphen in there but like...that looks wrong) And yes! He would still get sent there. His reaction to learning about Jay being on Ras's side would be veryyy different from canon. I like that Kai ribs Jay a lot, but I didn't really like his reaction to that news, you know? Nya was obviously distressed, and he would never crack a joke to his sister at a time like that. He'd be devastated too, saddened that his friend was finally found only to still be "lost."
I was so, so, so upset when Kai was never found by the Forbidden Five. Do you know how much Forbidden Five Kai fanart I consumed? A LOT. And for him to have no interaction with them whatsoever...yeah, no. He and Bonzel would be running from them, only for her to get inevitably separated from him. The Five would capture her and Kai, being the good guy he is, would reveal himself so "they wouldn't hurt her."
So they tie down Kai and start saying things like, "You know, we are short one member...can we really call ourselves the Forbidden Five with one of our own in Ninjago?" And naturally someone (Rox or someone idk) says, "We can easily remedy that. It would be useful to have a dragon on our side." Since the Five know dark magic, they cast a spell on Kai to control him. He obeys all their commands and is fueled by a quiet rage that isn't his own.
Naturally that means when Nokt releases the Forbidden Five, guess who drops down with them? That's right: Kai, who has been banished from his family for months, and this is how they reunite. The rest of the Five are still weak, but since Kai hasn't been in the Netherspace nearly as long as they had, he's fine. Nokt orders him to attack the ninja, and at first he does--until Nya begs for him to snap out of it. He does, temporarily, and seizes the Elemental Cup to return its powers back to their original masters.
Unfortunately, Kai's freedom is temporary. When Nokt orders him to retreat with the rest of the Five, he obeys, and they disappear into the temple gate together.
Now in addition to finding Jay in season 3, Nya is determined to get back her brother. She's going to break that spell no matter what--even if it means hiring a certain Rogue to hunt down and capture her dragon brother...
A few days ago I saw art of Kai being a member of the Forbidden Five. And ever since then it has been all I can think about. I have spent so many hours thinking about this silly little concept. I don’t just want to write a fanfic. I NEED to. And fuck it, I’m declaring myself the CEO of Forbidden Five Kai. Idec if it doesn’t become canon. It probably won’t. But I am obsessed.
