I like that The Acolyte put into perspective the range of force abilities that are used on people’s minds and how a “Jedi Mind Trick” as we know it, with the modifier “jedi” in front, changes the way we perceive the ethics of influencing or invading the mind of those around you.
Yord threatens to use the force on the Neimoidians minds to make them answer his request about Osha who they were effectively hiding.
Sol uses the force to calm the mind of the prisoner.
Mother Aniseya projects into Torbin’s mind. The coven possesses Kelnacca’s mind.
Osha inadvertently possesses Qimir’s mind.
Qimir wipes Mae’s memories, and is possible Vernestra has wiped memories too.
We only see what this ability looks like in first person through Mother Aniseya and Torbin’s interaction, but I’m curious to know what it’s like for those who are convinced “these are not the droids we’re looking for.” Especially given that the jedi mind trick abilities are supposed to only work on the “weak minded” or certain species. But we see the variations of mind related force powers or magic impacting many others throughout the series. (Torbin: “My mind is fortified!”)
It was fascinating to me to see this range of mental abilities as not exclusive to jedi, nor necessarily ethical even when used by jedi.
And I think this is something the viewer is encouraged to consider by presenting these on screen.
