Not a uni life best life entry. Nor one for the Code Out Series. Here’s how my eSports Festival 2015 (Day 1) experience went down.
August 21
(in drabbles, anyway).
Actually got to the venue (SM Cebu Trade Hall) before the call time; this is a feat, as most would know, as I am always late for appointments sometimes. I guess I can be really diligent and prompt when it counts (sorry, uni classes!).
So, I get in, get my ID, feel hella legit, and then run around doing all the errands I get tasked to do. Was fun.
Did I mention I volunteered as a marshal for this year’s ESF? Because I volunteered as a marshal for this year’s ESF. Yeah, first ESF ever and marshaling because why the fuck not, really?
I was told that the first day of ESF (or most tournaments anyway) is the busiest as this day is for the registration of the players. The tournament proper for each respective game follows immediately after.
And guess who gets assigned to be in the registration booth? Yep.
I’m not complaining though- I actually had fun. Maybe it’s because I had two good friends with me? It didn’t seem like work at all, to be honest. I enjoyed receiving people, having stamped them and putting on wristbands to indicate their access to the event. Later, I was assigned to handle the registration for the Fighting Games (Tekken + Street Fighter). Everyone was hyped which made me hyped.
Call me weird, but this volunteer work is pretty fun. I’ve always wanted to be involved in the competitive gaming scene, so there’s that, I guess. I’m not remotely close to being good enough of a player to be (or try to be) in the professional part of gaming as I’m more of a casual gamer than anything also I am prone to bouts of rage and ragequits so.
Anyway! Marshal duties aside, eSF Day 1 was great! Even though I was stationed in the reg booth for the majority of the event, we got to go in and watch some of the games and see other gamers and meet new friends and eat lots of good food and see cute cosplayers and where is this sentence going and do marshal work and get freebies and maybe just maybe get the chance to meet Alodia and Bianca(ke).
