“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
When you have a strong “why” you can get through anything. I know why I do the things that I do. I enjoy Ironman triathlons and pushing myself but when the going gets tough, it’s the “why” that gets me through it.
I actually have a few of them, not just one “why.” So here they are: 1. Because I can. I can swim, bike, run, and lift weights and I am so fortunate to be able to do these things. Three years ago I was hit by a car while training. I got lucky, seriously lucky, and I feel like I got a second chance. Why waste that?
2. To make my dad proud. I loved my dad a lot and he taught me so much. I think of him all the time and I think he would be proud to see the things that I am doing and what I am capable of. I will never forget him and I will make him proud.
3. Because I don’t want to be average, I want to be great. I want to leave my mark on this world and know that I gave it my all at everything I did. No regrets.
4. I love pushing myself and seeing how far I can go. I don’t want to settle. I want to keep growing, learning, developing, and pushing myself.
5. Because the things I do can sometimes rub off in positive ways and give people hope or inspiration that they too can push themselves and get after it. It makes people think, “wow, if he can do that, I can do this 5k!”
So there you have it. When I am grinding out the miles running, or on a long distance cycle, I remind myself of the “why’s.” They are so important as much of this sport is mental and if we don’t have the “why” down, it would be easy to throw in the towel.

The Power of Purpose: Why Your 'Why' Matters More Than What You Do
Emphasizes the importance of communicating the purpose and passion behind a product or service, rather than merely focusing on its features or benefits. By articulating the "why" that drives your business, you can establish a deeper connection with your audience and create a more meaningful and lasting impact.
Everyone needs to know their WHY. This sums up mine and makes my heart sing.
Someone once told me that everything changes one you find your “why.” They weren’t wrong, the truth of the matter is once I know why I wanted to get sober, once I knew why I wanted this way of life, everything changed. Make no mistake, I had no idea how someone like me could ever get sober. I didn’t how this whole sobriety thing was going to work or even IF getting sober would work for me. The amazing part, and I’ve seen it happen in myself and so many others around, is that once I found my “why”, the “how” found its way to me. I can’t explain it. For those who have experienced this, no further explanation is necessary, for those who think it’s impossible no explanation will ever be sufficient. • • • • #knowyourwhy #findyourwhy #howdidyouknow #soberjourney #recoveryjourney #sober #sobriety #soberinspiration #sobermovement #sobermotivation #soberinstagram #soberthoughts #recoveryworks #itworksifyouworkit #sobercommunity #recoverycommunity #recoveringalcoholic #sobervibes #sobersaturday https://www.instagram.com/p/CpprhexOawv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
H.O.W. sobriety works (for me). When I remain open, honest, and willing I’m never not amazed at where life (and sobriety) lead me. An open mind, willing heart, and honest intentions have never failed me. I may not always like where it leads me, but I can honestly say this is H.O.W. I keep growing, learning, and moving forward in every area of my life. In sobriety, once I knew my “why” it wasn’t difficult to find my “how”. What’s your H.O.W.? • • • • #knowyourwhy #findyourhow #soberjourney #recoveryjourney #soberthoughts #sobercommunity #addictionrecovery #recoveringalcoholic #selfreflection #fridayvibes #soberweekend #recoveryblog #soberblogger #recoveryworks #recoverysayings #recoveryposse #sobertribe #soberinspiration #sobermotivation #sobermovement #wedorecover #recoveryispossible #alcoholismrecovery #alcoholicsanonymous #friendsofbillw #soberliving #soberlifestyle #soberaf #odaat https://www.instagram.com/p/CpUwYkXM-_L/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Know your WHY. I do what I do because pharmaceutical "medicine" has damaged my family firsthand. I do what I do because I don't want to see people suffer in their health, in their mind, body or spirit simply from a lack of knowledge. That's why I'm here. Know your why, it will propel you to keep going even when the going gets tough. 💯 #startwithwhy #knowyourwhy #why #purpose #nutritioncoach #diet #life #healthy #health #wellbeing #wellness #truth #mission #missiondriven https://www.instagram.com/p/CkyZ1JnOEgd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
