Everhood Hunters announced for Switch, PC - Gematsu
Foreign Gnomes has announced Everhood Hunters, a roguelike rhythm entry in the Everhood series. It will launch for Switch and PC via Steam in 2027.
“In so many ways, this is the game we always wanted to make,” said Foreign Gnomes co-founder Chris Nordgren in a press release. “Jordi [Roca] and I learned so much about ourselves while working together over the years, and all our mechanical ideas formed into something bigger than either of us could imagine. It’s not just the battles we’ve refined; the whole spirit of Everhood‘s surreal storytelling thrives in Everhood Hunters. We can’t wait to see you all take on the universe together.”
Here is an overview of the game, via Foreign Gnomes:
So, there are those who think they have what it takes to be a hunter? No matter. The truth will come out soon enough. Pick from four different characters, each bringing bespoke playstyles to the table, and engage in musical battles and offensive beat-downs set to an electric soundtrack comprised of 70 new compositions as well as fan-favorites from Everhood and Everhood 2. Think things sound a little too familiar? Oh, ho, ho—how naive, little hunter!
Team up with a friend to embark on a roguelite adventure set in the Everhood universe to seal the root of all evil by solving riddles. Navigate winding paths filled with battles, rewards, shops, rest points, elite encounters, and other mysterious events unknown to even the PR firm writing this press release. Go toe-to-toe with surreal adversaries and work together side-by-side to climb to the top of weekly leaderboards. Jump to the beat of life’s rhythmic river and dodge a stream of musical energy flying in the face of existence. Gather enough energy uninterrupted to unleash a powerful counterattack, increasing in damage with each note stored. Collect enemy souls to unlock new items and equipment, and transform every run into its own nugget of reality nestled in the Everhood world forever.

Just finished Everhood 2...
And, yeah, I have to agree with most other opinions I've seen. While there have been several improvements to the gameplay and battle system, the story is far weaker than the first game, and the game as a whole feels very unfocused.
The story problems start pretty early on. As trippy as the first game could be, the goals were pretty straightforward. First, it was "get your arm back." Some guy stole your arm, and you want it back. Simple. After you get your arm back (roughly 1/3 of the way through the game), you're given a new goal: Use your recovered arm to kill everybody. Again, simple, straightfoward.
In the sequel, I lost track of what we were trying to accomplish pretty early on. At first, the goal seems to be "Do whatever Raven tells you to," but then once Raven fucks off, it just seems to be, "Do whatever make the game progress." The characters say a lot of words about "meeting God" and "enlightenment" and "duality," but I have no idea what they're talking about or why I should care.
I didn't even mind Riley's heel turn because at least the game finally had a clear goal: Stop Riley! But Riley's death is pretty anticlimactic, and the Shade throwing you into what is essentially a time loop at the end just felt very empty. I expected to at least learn something of Riley's motives or what connection they and the Shade had to Frog, but the game is completely mum on that. Which, considering how clumsy the writing is, may have been for the best.
I've seen some people argue that the ending is intentionally unsatisfying as some kind of meta statement about how gamers engage with games, always looking for new challenges and returning to the same game again and again to beat high scores while coming to disregard the story. I can kind of see the logic, but there are a few problems with that. One, the Genocide Route in Undertale made that same point a lot more elegantly; and two, something being intentionally bad still makes it bad.
So, yeah, I still love the first game and Frog is still my true love, but I am pretty disappointed in Everhood 2. While I don't regret getting it because it was an interesting experience, I don't think I could honestly recommend it if anyone asked.
HAPPY EVERHOOD 2 RELEASE TO ALL WHO OBSERVE (flashing lights warning though!)
Found out they are making everhood 2 and I just wanna remind everyone the devs and their moderator team defended a pedophile in their server for 6 months until the community finally had to spam the evidence in the chat for them to get the hint to finally ban the pedophile, and also banned everyone who provided the evidence (over 30 people). They claimed they sent death threats but there wasn't any. Don't support these people, if you do decide to get everhood 2, pirate it.
more like everGOOD!!!!!!!
