when i grow up

i want to live in an alternative community in some forest where we sustain ourselves. just a bunch of people making their own food and entertainment, relying on each other. if this exists, please let me know. technology is fab and all, but so is living somewhere you just don't need it. these people are going to have to have very big hearts, because i bring nothing to the table, skillwise.

Smoke and Ash: Charcoal Production in the Mountain Villages of the Sierra Madre

A villager from the mountains of Infanta, Quezon making charcoal in the forest. From this batch, he will make about 15 sacks of charcoal which he sells to middlemen for 70 pesos per sack. 

Charcoal production is one of the many causes of deforestation in the country, which pose a threat to the livelihoods of indigenous and local communities as well as to biodiversity and ecological balance. In 2004, Infanta and neighboring towns were inundated with 15 feet of floodwater, which is attributed by local environmentalists to deforestation of the surrounding Sierra Madre mountain range.

The cutting of trees for charcoal making for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited under Philippine forestry laws but without viable alternative livelihoods, this practice still continues.
