Bor, béke, bencések - augusztus végi boldogság

Lassan közeledik a harmadik évfordulónk Kanadában. Olyan ez, mint egy állandó utazás, egy nagyon sokáig tartó nyaralás. Az illúzió abban áll, hogy egyelőre nem látni a végét, sőt azt sem tudom, hogy valaha visszatérek-e oda tartósan, ahonnan 2016-ban elindultam. Ez a gondolat néha megriaszt, néha viszont arra késztet, hogy a körülöttem folyamatosan változó világra bízzam magam anélkül, hogy belebolondulnék az irányíthatatlanság tényébe.

Nos, ez az előző hétvége abszolút a fentiek jegyében telt. Ahelyett, hogy azon sopánkodtam volna, hogy már másodszorra hagyom ki a két évtizedes hagyománnyá fejlődött osztálykirándulást az igazi barátaimmal, engedtem, hogy itt szerzett ismerősökkel négyesben, végig portugálul és franciául csevegve az imádott Cantons-de-l’Est-ben veszítsem el magam.

Ismét jártunk Magogban, elvittük a srácokat az éjszakai elvarázsolt erdő Foresta Luminába a még mindig vicces nevű Coaticookban (ezúttal bőven elfért a pulcsi, nem úgy, mint tavaly július elsején). Napközben megmásztunk egy kisebb hegyet is, a turistaösvény a hegy lábánál lévő nagy kempingen keresztül vezetett: baromi érdekes látványt nyújtanak ezek a megvetekedett kempingező kanadaiak, az tuti!

Vasárnap megvolt minden: ima, kenyér, bor:) Reggel az egyik magogi templom tövében kávéztunk egy nagyon hipster auberge de jeunesse-ben, majd egy egyórás idegenvezetésen vettünk részt a csodálatos fekvésű bencés kolostorban, Québec egyik legkisebb és legfiatalabb településén, Saint-Benoît-du-Lac-ban.

Az idegenvezető egy vékonydongájú, csapzott hajú, szemüveges laikus fiú volt, aki gyönyörű franciát beszélt. Én megesküdtem volna rá, hogy francia származású, a már évtizede Québecben élő brazil barátaink viszont québécois-nak gondolták, így megkérdeztük őt magát: kiderült, hogy réunioni, ami mai napig francia tengerentúli terület Madagaszkárnál az Indiai-óceánban.

Maga az apátság alig 100 éves. Egy antiklerikális törvény elől menekülve francia szerzetesek alapították a Memphrémagog-tó partján. Nem volt egyszerű az indulás: 2 évvel a letelepedésüket követően a vezető apát beleesett a tóba motorcsónakból és odaveszett, plusz mivel a két világháború között Franciaország enyhített a szigorú szabályokon, többen viszatértek vagy elálltak a Québecbe költözés tervétől, így a szerény méretű birtokot majdnem be is zárták.

Aztán megújhodott az elán, és ma egy pompás komplexum áll ezen a festői helyen egy nagy sajtműhellyel, almalugassal, ciderkészítő üzemmel, komplett élelmiszerüzlettel és laikusok részére kiadható szállásrésszel. A sajtjaikért kezdettől fogva odavagyunk, ez is a fő bevételük amúgy. Az üzlet hétvégente mindig tele van, akárhányszor jártunk ott. Mindig is csodálatra bírnak a bencések: az a szorgalom, buzgalom, amivel dolgoznak és alkotnak, lehengerlő. David, a réunioni idegenvezető sorolta, hogy melyik szerzetes milyen egyetemi végzettséggel rendelkezik, hogy az üzemek minél jobban működjenek és haladjanak a technológiai fejlődéssel (van olyan szerzetes, aki például mikrobiológiából szerzett diplomát!).

Miután megvolt a lelki feltöltődés (sajtot nem kóstoltunk, csak hoztunk), bő egy órán át kocsikáztunk az USA-határral párhuzamosan, majdnem közvetlenül annak mentén gyönyörű zöld bundás hegyek között: jobb oldalon kanadai magaslatok, bal oldalon pedig Vermont zöld halmai kísérték utunkat. Így érkeztünk meg egyik régen dédelgetett célunkhoz, a Domaine du Ridge helyi borászat bemutatóbirtokára. Ugyan a 11 borból álló kóstolót kemény 20 perc alatt lezavarta az amerikaiasan negédes-kedves eladó, egy chardonnay jellegű borból vettünk egy üveggel és kiültünk egy hatalmas fa alá. Megkaptuk a sonka- és sajttálat és nem nagyon akaródzott hazatérni. Ahogy ott ültem a beérő fürtökön bambulva, azon gondolkodtam, hogy milyen lehet ez a táj a hóviharban. És aztán bevillant, hogy 4 hónap múlva karácsony...

Érthető módon nem nagyon sikerült jó fotókat készíteni a Foresta Luminában, de ez a videó egész jó lett: fára erősített lámpatestekkel és baromi jó hanghatásokkal hozzák a frászt az emberre:)

This past Saturday was a busy day with one event in the morning, Montreal Independent Games Festival (which I will cover over at That Moment In) and another late evening one, which is this one I’m about to talk about called Foresta Lumina! Foresta Lumina has been an event we’ve been planning to go to since last year but never found the time to last year. Finally, after our first reservation was cancelled due to thunderstorms, it was rescheduled for this past Saturday night. Foresta Lumina is located in Coaticook, Quebec which is about 1.5 to 2 hours depending where you are heading out from.

It is located in the Parc de la Gorge which during the day is a park for hiking and outdoor activities. The Foresta Lumina trail is adorned with lights and visuals telling a story of an enchanted forest which once had a lot of fairies but was plagued by a monster that could turn into a handsome man to trick them into the fairy’s eventual demise. However, before the fairies were taken, a mysterious force from Foresta Lumina appeared and saved them. This is why the forest is magical and protected by enchanted forces.

There isn’t really much to say about the trail and even pictures are hard to judge. Still, here are some more acceptable shots that turned out alright. I need some serious night time photo shooting practice.

For those that want to go on this Foresta Lumina trail. It is extremely dark in some parts but also quite enchanting and pretty to see. However, those with walking difficulties should be aware that there are some pretty steep slopes and the path winds up and down with tight walkways and stairs also. You do cross the beautiful suspended bridge which happens to be one of the longest in Quebec (I believe). It is also where they create it where it seems like we cross realms into the magical world.

Foresta Lumina is a fun experience however it is only 45 minutes and perhaps the hype of it got the best of us. We were a little underwhelmed while it was still pretty magical for the most part. We did discover that Coaticook may have quite a bit to offer to explore.

Just a few days left to see Foresta Lumina, Moment Factory’s big todo in the Eastern Townships. Oh, sorry, Moment Factory? More like NIGHTMARE FACTORY. It is basically The Ring with a line-up or Blair Witch with an entrance fee. How is this for kids?? Also some of us would have loved this as kids. Also the suspension bridge is terrifying.

Following last year's success, counting over 70,000 visitors - Nearly ten times more than the Estimated INITIALLY foot traffic - Foresta Lumina, the enchanted forest, is back in Le Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook for its second consecutive year. Moment Factory and the Parc de la Gorge have collaborated once again to fine tune the magical experience. The Parc de la Gorge board wished to improve and better accommodate the massive flow of visitors. Therefore, an electronic ticket booth was installed, allowing people to reserve their tickets hours in advance. Then Moment Factory created a more welcoming reception area; a magically inspiring environment. An interactive clock was built to announce the timing of each departure while triggering a light show at every hour. As well, the studio refined some parts of the trail to improve the experience and initiate a full immersion magical experience from start to finish.
