Rencontre avec Forest Pooky

Hier, au bureau d’Unilives, nous avons reçu Forest Pooky. Très sympa, très drôle et en plus, utile : il vous donne des conseils pour éviter l’arrêt cardiaque cérébrale ! Bonne lecture.

Comment as-tu entendu parler de BIM! ?

Je n’en ai pas entendu parler, je l’ai lu ! Je ne me souviens plus très bien parce que ça fait un moment que BIM! été lancé cette année, mais je l’ai vu passer un peu par hasard sur Facebook… C’était très intéressant. Et j’étais bien content (rires) !

Pourquoi avoir choisi d’y participer ?

J’ai choisis d’y participer parce que quand il se passe des choses qui tendent à promouvoir la culture locale, surtout dans la région, je pense qu’il faut y participer. C’est le rôle des artistes de promouvoir l’action de ceux qui essayent de faire bouger les choses, des organisateurs qui prennent des initiatives.

Le projet BIM! est un phénomène nouveau pour le live et le web. Que pensez-tu qu’il peut vous apporter, et apporter au public ?

D’un point de vue purement promotionnel, BIM! m’apporte une visibilité autre. Ça va me permettre de toucher d’autres personnes grâce au réseau BIM!. Peut-être qu’il y a des gens qui écoutent d’autres artistes qui ne seraient jamais venu m’écouter moi, et qui vont pouvoir me découvrir. Et d’un point de vue humain, c’est toujours bien de rencontrer de nouvelles personnes et… de travailler avec l’équipe de BIM!. J’ai bien rigolé, ils ont l’air extrêmement professionnels (rires)… et ça fait plaisir de travailler avec des gens qui sont investis !

Et par rapport à ton public ?

Comment dire… Je me tire ? Je me barre ? Je me casse en tournée pendant 6 mois donc les gens qui me suivent en France ou en Europe ne vont pas pouvoir me voir. Donc je pense qu’ils seront très heureux d’entendre ma douce voix suave et ma guitare… (rires)

Tu le sais, nous considérons le public et les artistes comme co-producteurs de l’évènement. Que penses-tu de ce choix ? Qu’est-ce que ça t’inspire ?

Je pense que c’est bien d’impliquer l’artiste dans le processus de production et d’organisation. Pour la plupart des groupes, je peux me tromper, mais dans le réseau dans lequel je tourne, on a déjà l’habitude de ça parce qu’on est un peu tourné DIY… (ndlr : en aparté) Do it yourself pour ceux qui ne savent pas, c’est de l’anglais. Et si tu sais pas ce que ça veut, tu Google ! (ndlr : fin de l’apparté) Pour ceux qui ont pas cette habitude d’être impliqués dans le processus de production, c’est intéressant pour eux d’apprendre ça. Et puis, je trouve ça bien que tout le monde s’implique dans un projet commun et qu’il n’y en ai pas un qui attende de son côté que le taf’ soit fait.

Du coup, nous avons autant besoin de ton soutien que de celui du public ! Qu’est-ce tu dirais à quelqu’un pour l’inciter à participer à cette aventure ?

Qu’est ce que je vais lui dire ?… Qu’il faut s’intéresser aux initiatives. C’est pas évident de faire bouger les gens avec ce genre de projet, c’est même très compliqué, il faut pré-mâcher le boulot et il faut insister lourdement sur le fait qu’il faut s’impliquer. Parce que si plus personne ne fait ce genre d’actions, on va finir par tous regarder TF1, devenir dépressif et mourir prématurément d’un arrêt cardiaque cérébrale (rires) ! Une maladie qui s’inventera à force. Et surtout, on va tous devenir très cons et ce serait dommage. Plus sérieusement, il faut soutenir les initiatives des gens qui souhaitent promouvoir la culture indépendante et les artistes locaux. Et surtout : il faut aller m’écouter moi !

An American in France: Forest Pooky

Forest Pooky is an American living in France. And he is touring his ass off. An introduction to a great singer / songwriter.  How are you? Hi Chris! I´m doing quite fine. Thanks!  Where are you currently? I am in Portland, Oregon right now, in the middle of a North American tour. I am drinking good coffee while doing this interview because a French friend is having me at his place, but out there, out of this French black drink oasis…it´s shit coffee land! I still drink it though!!! It is part of the American Dream!  What plans do you have for the rest of the year? Well, I´ll be flying out to New Zealand in December, after that I´ll head to New Caledonia, Australia and Hong Kong. A pretty amazing trip and cultural enlightment! I´m getting to meet a lot of cool people and play for them. Rad!  When is your next European Tour coming up? I´ll be back in Europe mid March. I´ll be touring France for 2 weeks for the release of my new EP on 12” so that´s very exciting for me! And then, Europe from April 6th to May 27th. I´ll hopefully get to play some festivals in the summer over Europe as well. My booker Thib is on it! ([email protected])   Are there any singer / songwriters you really like at the moment? I´ve been on the Canadian leg of this tour with Seth Anderson. Awesome dude, really nice and strongly interpreted songs (http://www.sethandersonmusic.com).I am currently traveling with my friend Spike McGuire. A fun and more political invested folk music performer from Reno, NV (http://www.spikemcguire.com/)And Peter Blackie Black, my australian friend from the legend band “the Hard Ons”who plays solo. An original singer songwriter who started to release one song a day since Jan 1st this year. He´s a passionate musician and we´ll be playing together on the Australian leg of my tour (https://peterblacksolo.com/)Love all those guys. We all play different kind of music but we all play with the same heart. And that is what links us all!  What is the current status of the music scene in France? Are there any acts you can recommend? There´s a lot of great acts in France! I´m mostly aware of the punk rock scene, that´s where I come from and where I´m at. Myself, I play in several bands like Sons of Buddha, Supermunk or Napoleon Solo when I´m not on the road with my solo acoustic stuff. You should check out Not Scientists, No Guts No Glory, Cannibal Mosquitos, Ghost on Tape, Maladroit…  What else is going on in Forest Pooky's world at the moment? Oh man…my plans go all the way to 2018 so, there´s a lot going on!After the Spring European tour and the release of my new EP “We´re just killing time before we die” on 12”, I´ll be playing festivals here and there in the summer, Fall will have some North American East coast shows before a project that will bring me back to Europe for a longer tour…  Thanks!
