As I’ve mentioned Jason is Izakk’s ✨boyfriend✨
Like Jasmine I explained all their childhood with their father so I’ll just stick to after
Unlike Jasmine though it took Jason a long time to find who he is outside of his father’s strict binaries and rules. He didn’t know who he was, didn’t know how to be anything other than “normal” or straight or well mannered. He didn’t know what his style actually is or what music he likes or what was because of he genuinely enjoyed it or because his father instilled it in him that that’s what straight men are supposed to like.
He and Izakk had went to the same school once Izakk had been put into fifth grade in Jason’s elementary/middle school when they were 12 but because Izakk was so so different from what Jason was told was normal he never associated himself with Izakk for a very long time. He never bullied him or anyone else but he never said anything or stopped others from bullying because that’s just what Jason thought was normal. But he never felt right about it. Jason had a girlfriend named Rose who I listed in the characters list! They started dating when they were 15 in their first year of high school. Like Richard though Rose mostly saw Jason as a way to make her look good and make her more popular since he was the most popular guy in school because of his father’s wealth. She used him more like an accessory. But Jason didn’t know the difference between that and love really, again because of how Richard insisted he be raised. Halfway through the first year of their relationship is when Catalina divorced Richard and Jason wasn’t really forced to adhere to his father’s rules anymore. But he didn’t know how to do anything else. So he just…kept dating Rose and keeping his grades up. He did support Jasmine in her very quick adaptation to their newfound freedom. He found it in him to finally speak up when someone was bullying other people for one reason or another.
Izakk and Jason met and actually interacted with each other at a party in the woods Jason’s best friend Ashton and Izakk’s best friends Dare and Paige dragged them too. They both wanted to get away from people and ran into each other at an old abandoned bridge no one has gone to in decades and found themselves talking. They talked about their lives, their fathers, their siblings, etc. they just…talk. Despite their very different childhoods they could bond over their terrible fathers even if the situations were definitely not the same. They found it easier to talk to each other than everyone else, even those they’re closest too. Jason found himself not caring about if someone saw him with Izakk, which not too long ago he would have been mortified. Izakk’s surprised by the lack of judgement or hatred he expected from Jason given past experiences and Jason’s father’s reputation. But Jason seems eager to not be like his father now, and understand Izakk and everything about him. And Jason is, he wants to understand and learn and get as far away from his father’s ideals as possible, and Izakk is the exact opposite of all of that.
They started meeting up at the bridge regularly, but in secret since Jason was still scared about what people would think. Izakk understood, understood what Richard had put Jason through, understood what it was like to move on from a bad situation and how difficult it was to leave that mindset. So he didn’t complain and didn’t take it personally.
Three years of just meeting up at the bridge and getting to know each other, growing together and changing. Jason had slowly become a lot more confident in branching out of what he grew up knowing and Izakk, with his many many hobbies and interests, helped Jason find his joy.
Izakk also helped Jason figure out what to do with all the deep seeded rage he had inside of him. He may be good at hiding it but Izakk knows there’s a lot of anger underneath the surface. And if Jason doesn’t do something about it it’ll kill him. So he gives him outlets, like the punching bag he stole from the highschool gym or letting him yell and scream about why he’s so angry. He also gave Jason many creative outlets like he uses. Although Jason didn’t enjoy most of them like Izakk does, but sometimes it’s worth a try. Jason is a natural at guitar though as they’ve learned trying out Izakk’s many instruments.
Jason after accepting Izakk and not being afraid of who he is decided he was gonna love Izakk. Not romantically, not intentionally, but he was going to make sure Izakk feels loved. Yeah his many siblings love him to death and so do Paige and Dare and sure Malcolm “loves” Izakk but Izakk still seems so…starved for love and affection. So Jason gives it to him. Holds his hand when Izakk’s having a particularly bad night, brings him little random trinkets he found that he thinks Izakk would add to his absolute mess of a room, feeds Izakk treats his Mama made. He basically unintentionally courts Izakk, Izakk doesn’t realize it either. He’s just hesitantly enjoying the attention.
In those three years Jason had continued dating Rose though, he just didn’t have it in him to break up with her even though Izakk told him it was better for both of them if he did. Jason knew he liked guys at this point and Izakk was the only one who knew that, but he still liked girls, he knew that for sure and Rose was…fine. Although Izakk disagreed, she is still just using Jason to look good. She doesn’t like or care about Jason at all.
Izakk had also gotten a boyfriend when they were 17. Malcolm Arden. The more Izakk talked about him the more Jason did NOT like him at all. Malcolm doesn’t respect Izakk’s gender identity, boundaries, and constantly makes Izakk get out of his comfort zone against his will. Izakk doesn’t really realize there’s a problem. He’s not that bad, compared to the shit he’s dealt with before anyway. No big deal.
Annnnd then it happened
At another party when they’re 18, highschool graduation night, Izakk was dragged there by Izaya and Paige who also brought Dare and Izaya dragged their brother Blakely too.
Jason was expected to go, of course he was, and it was his best friend Ashton’s party. Rose talked him into going for appearances.
Izakk had asked Malcolm if he was going but he said no.
He liiiied
Throughout the whole party Izakk and Jason didn’t speak a word to each other, and they were fine with that.
But guess whaaaat
Malcolm did go.
And he and Rose were found hooking up in Ashton’s bedroom much to his disgust :)
Of course the news spread quickly.
Jason was naturally fucking pissed.
Izakk was…just…sad.
And that made Jason even more angry.
Malcolm tried to play it off as no big deal. That Izakk never gave him enough so he didn’t have the right to be upset.
Rose said it was a lapse of judgment and that she and Jason can forget it.
Jason nearly beat Malcolm to death but got held back by Izakk who just insisted he wanted to go.
So they left.
Jason storming out holding Izakk’s hand while Izakk’s brothers, friends, and Ashton follow them both.
Jason drove there so he just takes Izakk to his car and tells everyone to leave them alone they just want to be alone and think go away. They all back off after Izakk nods in agreement and they take off together to the bridge.
They sit in silence for a full hour while Izakk quietly wipes tears of his face and Jason seethes.
Eventually Jason takes a deep breath.
“What if we just date?”
“…what?”
“Date. You and me. Date.”
“Yeah ‘cause ya fuckin’ want me sure. Definitely not caught up in ya feelins about tonight an’ bein’ petty.”
“…okay fair but-“
“No Jay. Just…no. Let it go. Please.”
Of course it took a couple more years and a lot happened in that time which I will talk about separately.
But one night after a l o t had happened they just…kissed. And it a lot more 🙃 and they started dating and finally being in love. And then they fostered and eventually adopted Wyatt and had their daughter Violet (named after Izakk’s mother of course) and they chose to not get married after what they saw marriage do to trap both their mothers. :)
