We have a new potential Season 5 Byler song, folks #forevergate
I LOVE and ADORE David Bowie's "Heroes" and I want it to be featured this season. But the trailer has another candidate for another song that will break our hearts:
This song came out in 1986. Freddie Mercury died of AIDS in 1991. Though this song was NOT written by him (it was written by fellow bandmember Brian May) and it was recorded before Freddie was diagnosed with HIV, at the time Season 5 is set (1987 - 1989) I am SURE this song had significance in the gay community dealing with the AIDS crisis.
It's about a romantic couple who are being denied the chance to be together, who only have now.
People today may not understand how horrible the AIDS epidemic was then: In my town of San Francisco, 50% of gay men were diagnosed with HIV and almost sure they would die of AIDS.
This song perfectly expresses how Mike and Will would feel if they're trapped together in the Upside Down, having just realized their love for each other is mutual, but knowing they will die:
