#cockygate update

A lovely, lovely man named Kevin Kneupper who used to be a professional IP lawyer has given up his own time and expertise to file a challenge against Faleena Hopkins, the author who has been sending demands to other authors to take down books with ‘cocky’ in the title.

Kevin is also an author and though he is declining to be paid (and make no mistake, you’d probably pay $10,000 to have an IP attorney do this for you) we are encouraging everyone to say thank you by purchasing one (or more) of his books on Amazon, or reading them on Kindle Unlimited.

I bought They Who Fell and will be reviewing it as soon as I can fit it into my schedule!

If this person is indeed the Kevin Kneupper that was involved in big ticket cases like Parkervision vs Qualcomm then Hopkins is going down.

It’ll no longer be an issue of whether the RWA will be able to muster up enough funds.

Authors Guild and RWA Prevail in Court Defending Authors in “Cocky” Trademark Dispute - The Authors Guild

Despite the popularity of using the word “cocky” in Romance book titles, this spring Hopkins obtained the trademark registration for “cocky” in connection with her series of self-published romance novels, each featuring one of her “Cocker Brothers” characters. She then tried to block the sale of books by other romance writers with titles that included the word.
