Buddy Ring

"You called for me?" Hektor entered Romeo's room with a smile. However, he paused and frowned once his gaze fell upon Romeo pacing back and forth, nervously fidgeting with his hands.

"Are you-" he didn't finish his sentence as Romeo practically yelled, his tone full of anxiety and words slightly mashing together.

"Close your eyes and hold out your left hand."

Hektor's eyebrow twitched upward as he stared at Romeo for a moment, assessing the situation.

Romeo, realizing how he sounded and feeling worse under Hektor's analytic eye, laughed nervously and motioned for Hektor to join him to sit down.

"Sorry, uh, maybe we should sit first."

"Are you feeling alright?" Hektor's words were filled with concern. He sat beside Romeo, keeping an eye on the man. He never seen Romeo so uneasy... which was saying a lot, since Romeo tended to worry over everything.

Romeo's response didn't stir much confidence.

"Yep, uh-huh, perfect!"

"I just, um, just want to give you something. A suprise. Yep."

Romeo gave a smile, but Hektor noted the sweat beginning to bead on his forehead and the way Romeo kept patting his pocket. Clearly it was something important to Romeo.

"Hm~ A suprise for me? I'm sure I'll like it, whatever it is. You have a good eye for gifts."

"Right...Uh, so your hand...?"

"Don't rush me, these old bones can't take it!"

Hektor chuckled at the pointed look Romeo gave him, closing his eyes and offering his right hand.

"Wrong hand."

"I know, just seeing if you're paying attention~"

"Oh, Hektor!"

Hektor grinned at the sound of familiar exasperation in Romeo's voice, which replaced the nervousness from before. He would take Romeo being annoyed at his antics over Romeo's fear any day. Hektor offered his left hand, palm up.

Romeo talked while grabbing the object from his pocket.

"So, uh, I got you this... gift. I saw it in the shop and..."

Hektor could hear Romeo take a heavy inhale and exhale.

"And we've been together for quite a while now."

Romeo took Hektor's hand and flipped it over, palm down.

"I never felt this way about someone before. I know our relationship is complicated, with... everything that it is. Everything that comes with it."

Something cool slipped over Hektor's ring finger, causing him to flick open his eyes in suprise.

"But I love you, with my whole heart."

Romeo brought Hektor's hand to his lips and placed a gentle kiss on top of it, then he looked up into Hektor's unreadable gaze.

This was much more than just a gift, and Hektor knew this. He knew Romeo's past, he knew the pain Romeo felt when it came to any topic relating to what this ring signified.

This was trust beyond anything Romeo had shown before. Pure trust that Hektor wouldn't take his heart and devastate it, pure trust that Hektor was loyal past their bond as mage and heroic spirit.

The longer the silence stretched on, the more Romeo felt nauseated and the pressure of tears. Did Hektor not feel the same way? Was this too early?

The doubt that had begun to ebb quickly was cast away as Hektor smiled at Romeo, pulling Romeo toward him into a loving embrace.

"I love you too."

Romeo sighed in relief, a few tears running down his face. He relaxed in Hektor's arms.

"I can't believe you beat me to popping the question," Hektor hummed, looking down at Romeo. He gently brushed the tears away with his thumb.

"Were you thinking about it?"

"Mm-hm, I noticed the Buddy Rings at the shop the other day. I supposed it was about time we tied the knot, even if it's not legally official."

Hektor looked down at the ring on his hand and admired it for a moment before asking, "Did you buy yourself one?"

Romeo paused and shook his head, saying, "I completely forgot. I must've been too caught up in thinking about giving you a ring..."

With that, Hektor lifted Romeo into his arms bridal style and stood up.

"H-Hey, wait, what are you-?"

"Let's go buy you a ring," Hektor smiled, heading to the door with Romeo in his arms.

"Are you carrying me all the way there?"

"Here comes the groom~"

Romeo rolled his eyes as Hektor carried him out of the room.

What I like about my design of him is his color scheme, I really wanted to give that vibe of "impending downfall of Troy" while also matching with my child version of him in the AU

I've had this concept in the back of my head for quite a few years, maybe ever since the beginning of the AU, I just never drew it before

I like the idea of Paris' hair darkening as he gets older and him looking similar to Hektor in that, as well as I like the idea of him having a super long braid

I always wanted to animate him to Chop Suey by SOAD, maybe someday it will happen
