“H-hello!” Shuichi was not sure how he had gotten himself in this situation. He wanted to avoid the characters of the Dangan Ronpa universe as much as possible. Yet, his luck had always been about as good as his social skills which was to say not at all. He had thought the head of Hope’s Peak Academy was somebody named Makoto Naegi, so for that reason his limited knowledge did not allow him to recognize this person. 

Still, he was a polite young man as always. He took a bow in front of the man. While his head was down he stammered out an explanation for who he was. “M-my name is Saihara Shuichi. I’m the Ultimate Detective. Well I’m not much of a detective but that’s what they call me anyway.” 

He looked up to the other man meeting his eyes again. For a moment he wondered if there was a polite way to phrase ‘new phone who dis’. “Are you teaching any classes inside of this city, sir? Or is school officially on break on this island?” He decided for a joke. Immediately after making the joke though he began to worry if that joke sounded disrespectful. He did not want the man to think he was a lazy student. He was, as ever, awkward.

It was the last, little piece of bread from their sandwich, and the squirrel had been lurking around for some time. Maybe they weren’t supposed to just, try and feed wildlife like that, but it wouldn’t do any harm… right? Crouching down by the park bench, Chihiro held out the small piece of bread for the squirrel. Their eyes widened as it hesitantly came closer, closer…

A snapped twig nearby startled both of them. Chihiro looked up quickly and dropped the piece of bread, expression almost guilty.

“O-oh, I’m sorry, I probably shouldn’t have tried to give it anything anyway—!” They felt absolutely ashamed.

     “What a lovely tune from such a mysterious entity. Like a radio instructed by a station, she hovers like a puppet on strings.”

          Whether or not that analogy works is up to the individual next to him.

”Ummm, I found a case that we can work on together. I’m sorry it’s not the coolest case.” He did not know much about his father’s history. Just that he happened to also be involved with detectives. Shuichi was not even sure he liked being a detective or not, it was a fake talent after all and one he did not earn. 

However, it was all he could think of to do to spend time with the other man at the moment. Shuichi did not know if he lived to be a detective, but he definitely lived for the connections he had with others. He  fumbled through the papers held in his hands. Finally he took out a photograph of a dog and held it in the man’s face. 

”The... the case I got was this one. Basically this pet went missing and we have to find it. It’s kind of like the first case I ever worked.” Shuichi said as he smiled back fondly on a memory that he was not even sure was his.

“Yer bein' watched.”

“I’m aware.” She speaks in a low voice, turning around once so piercing eyes can track over the other’s face. Celestia Ludenberg does not miss out on much. 

“But ah, I value an outside opinion. Just who is watching me?”

Jin made sure today was the day and not a day late like one would assume. But he had no present (yet) to give, which if he finds one suitable, he'll give it. "Hey, ah, Kyobabe. Happy birthday, darling."

   “...seriously, with the pet names. ‘Kyobabe’ is pushing it quite a bit,” she scoffs and crosses her arms, jaw set and looking to the side. “...thank you, I suppose. It’s just another day.”

Well, there’s a face he thought he wouldn’t see again -- and quite frankly, he wouldn’t have minded if he hadn’t. It wasn’t that he hated the headmaster of Hope’s Peak, per se; rather, he was frustrated by his seeming incompetence, by the complete and utter lack of effort Jin Kirigiri had put towards alleviating his problems with that vermin. We can’t expel her. We can’t turn her into the police, either. Absolutely useless, even over threats that the Togami family would cut some of their funding to the academy. The agreement reached in the end had been nothing but empty words; the heir was promised that if she ever laid another hand on him he could report her and action would be taken -- and needless to say, nothing had come of that. He had still been harassed and harmed, not only physically, but in that way as well, and that’s something he can never forgive -- nor forget. Jin may not have inflicted that damage onto him, but he certainly enabled it.

As such, he’s not too keen on treating the man with respect -- and yet, he does, but only barely. It’s a habit he can’t seem to break; while he may walk over his peers and those below him, his father had drilled into his head that he must treat those above him -- the few that were, that is -- with respect...of course, not for respect’s sake, but so that he could get what he wanted. “What are you doing here, sir?” he asks, cutting right to the chase; I wouldn’t have thought someone like you would have ended up here is left out, but his sharp tone surely implies it.

This man was familiar. Vaguely, very very vaguely. Perhaps he wasn’t inherently familiar to her, personally, but someone she knew. Someone whose name she still didn’t remember. Someone whose face she didn’t know. Someone who she only knew existed through the passing lullabies they’d sing, their insistence that she was good. She was human. More human than anyone else could ever imagine.

Ribbons.

Braided hair.

Gloves.

Kyouka shook her head from side to side and continued to ominously watch this particular man. Her usual, rambunctious attitude seemed to be missing for the time being. She was too wrapped up in her thoughts to try speaking to him. A part of her resented him on instinct alone.

He wasn’t there when that person needed him. Red eyes narrowed slightly and the quiet girl remained hunched in place, for once not showing any signs of suddenly bolting if this stranger approached.
