White Mountain Fishing Report
NO CAMPFIRES — PROPANE ONLY. Avoid bear interaction by storing your food away from tents and in a secure location. State Route 273 past the Sunrise area and Forest Service Road 116 are closed. The eastern and southeastern areas of the reservation are closed because of the Wallow Fire.
STREAMS — Fishing is good. The North Fork of the White River is open. Try baits like nightcrawlers or salmon eggs and lures like Rooster Tails or Mepp’s spinners or spoons like Kastmasters or Mepp’s Black Fury.
BLACK AND SALT RIVERS — Closed due to potentially dangerous flooding.
Big Lake and Crescent Lake are now open, currently only accessible via Hwy 273, and should be great fishing. Highway 261 is still closed to repair guardrails damaged by the Wallow Fire. Nelson Reservoir and Luna Lake are also open. These lakes have not been fished for over a month, and all the trout that normally would have been harvested in June are still waiting to be caught.
