A quick test print of this year's linoprint non-festive winter cards. The text is once again based on a line from The Mountain Goats, and the image is of the Corpach Wreck at Fort William in the Scottish Highlands, an old fishing boat that broke loose from its moorings and wrecked itself back in 2011.

See below for the lino plate, reference image, and mockups of the gradient print and textless editions I plan on printing.

This year I plan to do a run of cards to send out to people, and a run of prints which should be up for sale at some point, so watch this space. I'm also thinking about carving out alternate text for a special Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan edition, since the image fits the new TMG album so well.

Sporran from Scotland dated to the 18th Century on display at the West Highland Museum in Fort William, Scotland

Sporrans were, and are still, worn to provide something to hold personal items. Highlanders in Scotland often found themselves moving around, tending to cattle and driving them to common lands for grazing. So they used sporrans to hold what they needed, especially food for themselves, normally oats.

This sporran is said to have been found at the battlefield of Culloden where highland clansmen fought on both sides of the conflict. The clansmen fought as irregulars and not as professional soldiers using their own equipment. However due to their involvement in the war, the fashion became associated with warfare and became part of the uniform of the growing highland regiments.
