On My Own

For years i have been under some unfathomable notion that i need a man to complete my life, fulfill an invisible whole in my heart , and meet a need society clearly states that i have. Only sitting here now on the cold hard floor with a pen in my hand do i realize how idiotic that ideolology is. We have taught young girls that they need their prince to save them. We tell teenagers and young adults that finding that one true love will make their life complete. This is what i grew up thinking, grew up searching for, ending up empty handed and unhappy. The idea that ones entire happiness depends on another person is absolutely absurd. A senseless notion passed down from the generations. There is no one who has the right ot say that i can not be happy on my own, that i need someone else’s affections to truly reach my potential. I have the power over my own life. My happiness is in my hands!
