Potential Character for Mrs. Kelsey and Tumblr 6/9/2022:
Cal “Fortstopher IV” Suresh, the Checkered King (a Monsterfication Victim):
Appearance: (Human Form) (bottom picture), (Monsterfication Vessel) (middle picture), (Monsterfication True Form) (top picture).
What he’s from: Balan Wonderworld.
What he might be in: Magical Mom.
Background:
Clever and a problem-solver, Cal Suresh was a prodigy (and, later, a grandmaster) when it came to chess. For over a decade, he was a reigning champion. They said he was untouchable, and he even found a wonderful wife. Life was perfect.
Then, one day, a young kid of about 20 turned up, and suddenly his title of champion wasn’t as secure as it had been. The boy was pulling it right out from under Cal! Perhaps his confidence was shaken, perhaps he wasn’t as sharp as he had been, but, either way, he couldn’t seem to win. His rank kept getting lower and lower until he was playing against TEENAGERS who were better than him.
One particular match against a fourteen-year-old boy was one particular incident. The kid moved his queen into a position that confused Cal a great deal, for if she were lost, the king would be left vulnerable. No matter how you looked at the board, it seemed like he was handing Cal victory on a silver platter. But Cal’s intuition told him he was going to lose. He looked at the boy’s face, and he was smiling ever so faintly. The moves were standard, but on the third move, Cal realized what the boy was playing at, but there was nothing he could do to stop it. Cal lost, and sank into a deep despair.
To make matters worse, as Cal wallowed in his own self-pity, he nearly drove his wife away. He nearly lost the love of his life because he couldn’t see anything beyond his own (as he put it) “selfish desire to be champion again”. He threw everything away. His chess sets, his medals and trophies. All of it.
Eventually, Cal decided to take a walk to clear his head. It was at this point he encountered a mysterious figure who spoke to him. The man seemed to understand what Cal was going through. And Cal’s anger and frustration kept rising and rising the more he spoke to this man. Not at the man himself, but at others.
Eventually, Cal went berserk, and underwent Monsterfication, bursting out of the diner he was in and going after the fellow who was the first to beat him at chess. Ultimately, Magical Mom and Adora Flora got involved, and calmed him down.
After returning to his original form, he encountered a young kid who wanted to learn how to play chess. And thus, Cal found peace.
How he is like me:
We both have been angry about various matters, including other reasons for being angry and lashing out at others. In order to calm down from “Monsterfication”, I do things like spend some time with myself, or get a hug, or pet Smokey. In order to AVOID “Monsterfication”… well, that’s a tougher job. I suppose I may need to get away from whatever’s trying to trigger me.
Happy (early) Valentine’s Day, everyone!
Here are some slightly rushed Bww doodles of a bunch of Nighmar-I mean Nega bosses! These are a bit old too!
Has anyone noticed that Fortstopher IV (Big and small) are both a visual pun on this proverb “at the end of the game, the king and the pawn go in the pawn go in the same box” which translates to humility, it’s a perfect symbolism for Cal’s character!
Look at this small round boi!
