Iceland road trip (day 2)
Iceland road trip (day 2)
Today it really got going. After checking out of our Reykjavik accommodation we headed towards the town of Akranes, which took around an hour. And wow do Icelanders like roundabouts, it felt like we were in Milton Keynes for the first half an hour or so. I had set the SatNav to Akranes lighthouse, a key location in Eva Björg Ægisdóttir´s The Creak On The Stairs. As you can see from the photo –…

Thought I wasn't gonna leave the house today, lol. But am outside the city with parents and lil bro. Haha. This place is like a country hotel or something outside the city. XD Great spot actually. #iceland #fossatun (at Fossatún)
I'm sitting here at the moment. XD Pretty cool. A lil windy and stuff, lolol. But nice. A bunch of flies but obviously that comes with the territory or whatever. Heh. #iceland #fossatun #nature (at Fossatún)
Fossatun, Iceland (les potins d’Elinka)
Night 13 - Fossatun Country Guesthouse
We stayed in a cute little building facing the waterfall. It was comfortable, we had a private bathroom and we were able to leave the window open all night and hears the falls. There is a nice deck for having drinks and looking at the falls. In the dining room (great food for dinner) there is a large collection of vinyl records, in alphabetical order. You can choose one and play it during dinner. Some night’s there is live music as the owner is in a band. Behind the property there is a walking path with signs and a story about trolls. As the falls is called troll falls, the owner made up a a story and set up a nice walk. He also wrote 4 children’s books on trolls, which you can buy in several languages there and he (the author) will sign. We had a great stay. We were also told that the river is one of the top salmon river’s in Iceland so you can stay there and fish. In addition there were 2 naturally heated hot tubs. Night 13 - Fossatun Country Hotel and the resident trolls
Iceland Day 13 - Snæfellsjökull National Park to Fossatun
We drove the entire park (west to east as Hellnar is on the western side). It took about 2-3 hours. We hiked out to see some rock formations. We could have gone up on the glacier on either a snow mobile or SnowCat but since we had done Vatnajökull glacier, which is the largest in Iceland, we were content to just drive and look at everything. same with the Vatnshellir Lava Cave...we have been in lava caves in Hawaii and had gone into the actual volcano outside Reykjavik we passed on this as well. There was one volcano we could have climbed but it looked very steep and we really wanted to do waterfalls. After we got out of the park we headed to Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls and then on to our over night at Fossatun where our room had a view of the falls.
