Life has been so so so so so so weird the past few weeks. Feel like I’m in some sort of dream or limbo. Astonished, shocked, appalled, shocked, just genuinely shocked by how some people are, at the state of the world. Idk bro. Idk

And just like that, foundation training is over....
Bring on the next year, getting that personal and career development 🤞🏻
I will preface this by saying that I love medicine (and hospital medicine in particular)... I have worked on incredibly stressful units, understaffed wards, and lots of acutely sick patients and still enjoyed the jobs and had a spring in my step going to work on most days. But I HATE my current GP rotation AKA my banishment to the Phantom Zone. I have never felt less valued or cared about by any of my consultants or colleagues, as I do in this job. There's no teaching, minimal support, and I feel like I am being judged for needing to ask for help. I've never felt less confident in my management plans. I wake up in the mornings utterly miserable. My precious Sundays, which should be mine to relax and enjoy, are spent dreading Mondays and the week ahead. I have already used up my annual leave for the placement, and the thought of spending another 2 months feeling like this every day is awful. Even my partner, who has known me for over a decade, says that I have never looked so unhappy. I realise I am very privileged to be in a career that I enjoy (even if my current job role is making me miserable). I just need to find a coping mechanism to get through it. Medblr, how did you cope with awful rotations and placements?
Hey, I have a question I'm currently studying medicine outside UK and I was wondering how to apply for FY1 in England. I looked around online but I couldn't find much to help me. Who would I be able to ask that would give me useful info?
Hello! So, there are two main oragnisations that you need to make contact with and research. The first is the GMC; they register doctors in the UK. They have guidance for international medical graduates and doctors. The requirements are different ( in terms of whether you need to take the English IELTS exam or the clinical PLAB exam). This is the first step you’ll need to do, because these things take time to organise. The second is the UK foundation programme; they are the body in charge of training FY1s and FY2s. You’ll probably want to check with them that they accept your qualifications. All our applications are through their FPAS portal, and once you work as a foundation doctor you’ll be living by their eportfolio so you’ll want to get familiar with them. Other useful sources include the BMA who have some useful tips, and the BMJ has an article about applying as a foreign doctor.I hope that helps!
Foundation training? Completed it mate
As a treat, I get to be the only junior doctor on for critical care over the weekend, with the Medical Director of the trust on as the consultant.
I hope all UK final years are happy with their deanery allocation! Good luck with the ranking of jobs, if anyone has any questions my ask box is open!
A few days ago, I wrote about my current rotation, and how demoralised the job is making me feel. @meatball-surgeon very kindly gave me some suggestions, which I am now trying to put into effect. So, I thought I'd summarise the positives: - got through a whole session without needing advice/feeling uncertain - diagnosed a probable Osgood-Schlatters disease from history (will be interesting to see if there's anything to find on x-rays) - encountered an interesting case of Giardiasis diarrhoea - hearing from the health visitor that a patient I've been seeing with post-natal depression called me "a lovely doctor" - finding a nice café across the road Plus, it's a bank holiday weekend coming up... :)
