Romeo y Julieta Devocion Magnum premium handmade cigars are delectable and girthy 6x60 treats that will provide a ton of good smoke. A blend of aged Honduran and Dominican long fillers, United States binder, and top-quality Ecuadorian Habano wrapper are rolled with top-notch construction to ensure an even burn and easy draw. This cigar was crafted to pay homage to The Bard and his play Romeo and Juliet. or as some know it as Romeo and Ethel the Pirates daughter.

Founders Porter

Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Review: Founders Porter (Bottle)

The Founders Brewing Company is simply one of the best craft breweries in the country, which is rather impressive seeing as they were only founded 14 years ago, and nearly went bankrupt about four years after that. Starting small, and perhaps somewhat lost and without a mission, the brewery began by brewing what they admit to have been uninspired beer. Perhaps they were trying to please the masses, or perhaps they didn't want to risk a major flop, but the result was an average brewery that was failing financially. Then in 2001, founders Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers decided they had enough. Their new motto: Brew beers we want to drink. Just like that, gone were the mild mannered brews, and in came the big, bold, and daring beers we know and love today. The first one we'll be reviewing here at the Great Beer Quest is their Porter. 

First off, the beer pours pitch black, with a medium, carmel brown head. The aroma is mostly coffee/espresso, with some chocolate and hops. The flavor, however, is a bit suprising. At 6.5% ABV, the beer is lighter than I expected. Very smooth, with significant hop flavors to complement bitter coffee and caramel, not much chocolate here. I know it's summer, and most of us aren't sipping on porters, but I actually found this one to be really refreshing. The hops give it almost an American Pale Ale taste for a fleeting moment, but then you get that round of warm and rich coffee. Though I can't say it's what I expected, the Founders Porter is a great beer, and a nice change up from American Pale Ales and IPAs in the hot summer months.
