Will companies move to four-day work weeks?

Trials of four-day work weeks have been successful, but will companies get on board?

(NewsNation) — Trials of four-day work weeks have been successful, with happier workers and no loss of productivity. Now, some companies are starting to make shorter work weeks a standard practice.

Not everyone is behind the idea of a shorter work week, and there continues to be debate over the practice. But some lawmakers, including California Rep. Mark Takano and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, are working to make the standard work week just 32 hours, with no loss of pay for workers.

DNSFIlter CEO Ken Carnesi switched his company to a 32-hour week and joined NewsNation to talk about the change. The company decided to make the shift during the pandemic, when employees were working remote.

More and more companies are making the move to a 4-day/32-hour workweek.

I have a genuine question about the 4-day work week. I would love someone more politically plugged in to chime in. (And this is not intended as a gotcha- I genuinely support this idea.)

is the additional day off supposed to be the same for everyone? I see the biggest societal benefits if the four days vary person to person, so if Suzy regularly has work off on Tuesday she can go to to doctor’s office, and Dr. Akiva will be there because his “extra” day day off isn’t until Thursday.

HOWEVER, I’m a teacher. And so I see that falling apart. Do teachers get a day off? Do we get included in the labor revolution? Because all positive thoughts on education aside, the world treats educators as day care and we are needed 5 days a week inside those buildings.

maybe I could see all teaching staff at one school getting the same day off and a separate agency comes in on that day to day care the 2/3 of students with two working parents. But lordy lord do I see issues with that, knowing how kids get with altered schedules.

Seriously, what did Ireland do? What would we be asked to do?
