why skeletons have only four fingers?

That is an interesting question due to skeletons' origins as dead humans who bonded with their old bodies. These bodies are made of physical matter. The change happens when the poltergeist fully bonds to their skeleton and turns it into a body of dust and magic.

Such a body is then more malleable acording to what they think they should be like. Since monsters as a people tend to have 4 fingers, perhaps they subconsciously think "well if I'm going to be a monster, I aught to have 4 fingers" and that's what happens. Perhaps some skeletons never came in contact with other monsters and have 5 fingers. Or otherwise really want to keep their 5 fingers.

But when those skeletons have kids with 4 fingered skeletons(or other monsters), those kids have 4 fingers and so on. Until most of the population of Skeletons have 4 fingers.
