The journey back to Skyhold was no easier than it had ever been, but it didn’t bother him this time. Perhaps it was because of his time spent dreaming in the Fade, or perhaps it was because his mind was too preoccupied with what he would find at Skyhold.
And what he might not find there, now.
Devotion stirred in him restlessly, as though they were as anxious as he was. It was a strange sensation, though he supposed all of what had come to pass could be considered as such. But what surprised him more was that the spirit felt less invasive than he would have expected. With Ghilan’nain, her magic had felt foreign and cruel, like dark tendrils latching onto him, squeezing tight. But he had not felt such discomfort with Devotion, as though they had instantly settled in him.
He wondered, for a moment, if Devotion had been within him for longer than he’d thought.
‘Time moves differently in the Fade,’ Devotion reminded him.
Saeris started at the sudden sound of their voice in his mind, but willed himself to relax. He glanced over at Nirasha, who thankfully didn’t seem to notice.
Well. He supposed Devotion wasn't that settled within him just yet.
The snow crunched beneath the hooves of the hart Nirasha had been given by the Inquisition. A gift for her service, they had claimed.
“I scoffed at their insinuation that I was doing any of this for them,” Nirasha chuckled. “But harts are noble creatures, and I needed the company."
She spoke of the several times Lana had visited the temple, but each time it had grown harder for her as they had waited for Saeris’ return. Nirasha didn't speak much of Taelan outside of the fact that he had busied himself with helping the Inquisition's continued relief efforts in Ferelden.
He always did like to keep busy.
When at last they reached the path to the gates of Skyhold, Saeris' heart clenched. The bridge that had cracked and crumbled beneath the weight of two dragons had been rebuilt, the new stone dusted with a fresh layer of snow.
THIS BOOK IS SO SAD. i 'm cryig and i t might be because of lack of sleep or this book is just so sad why do i have to read this for english what didn't frankenstein father his creation instead of being a little assface and run away from it and leave the monster to fight for himself and discover how ugly he is and hated he is and HOW ALONE HE IS WHY IS A MARY SHELLY MAKING ME CRY AT 11PM.
Is it possible that Augustus is getting more annoying while Hazel becomes more endearing? Maybe the reason I like her more is because I'm able to swim around in her mind and I can't do that with Augustus.
I'd seen it before but I love the falling in love like falling asleep line. It's so accurate and perfectly descriptive.
Hazel telling her lungs to keep their shit together was funny. I don't often enjoy swearing but a properly placed word can change something from trashy to witty and this is one of those times.
I'm glad Amsterdam is back on. That's my favorite storyline in the book and I'm glad that, as far as I know, they get to continue on with that.
I'm going to go read another chapter now. Hopefully I'll finish this book soon.
Chapter 9:
I think I kind of ship Issac and Hazel. They are sweet together. I don't know.... Maybe it's just because I don't like Augustus and I would prefer her with someone else.
Chapter 10:
Airplane are fun. I recognized the T.S. Eliot poem she was quoting. I love that poem. And apparently Augustus loves Hazel. I was expecting that to come soon. It wasn't too much of a big deal to me and I didn't freak out or anything. It's not a secret that I'm not the biggest Augustus fan so him saying that didn't make me giddy or anything. It is what it is I guess.
Chapter 11:
This chapter was sweet. It was just a romantic night out in Amsterdam. I'm just anxious to meet this mysterious writer. I feel like I'm just kind of waiting for something to actually happen in this book. It all seems like a setup for what's to come which I just know will be awful.
The thing is, I'm just not really emotionally invested in this romance. And I might be the only one who thinks their "Okay" "Okay" thing is stupid. I feel like the only reason this book is good, is because of how John Green writes. If written by someone who wasn't as good of a writer, this book would have flopped. But because he is so witty and creative with the way he writes, that it is interesting. It doesn't exactly make sense logically to dislike the characters but love the writing, but that is how I feel.
