Black Dice - “Bad Bet”/ “Tuned Out” / “Plasma”
As a society, I think we have collectively dropped the ball on recognizing that a new Black Dice album arrives at the end of the week. When one of the most seminal experimental noise band’s from the Brooklyn loft scene of the early Aughts announced that they were releasing, Mod Prog Sic, their first album in 9 years, that news was plastered and covered everywhere with its wild lead single “White Sugar”, but there’s been radio silence for the most part since even on this end simply because the latest news in music preview form was hardly transmitted across busy Wi-Fi signals.
This I believe to be a failure of the whole music publication ecosystem and what has become an unhealthy reliance on expecting a press release or what’s trending on Twitter to bubble up attention. It would not surprise if Black Dice did this by design to prove that point. At any rate, here’s three songs you’ll hear come Friday in “Bad Bet”, “Tuned Out”, and “Plasma”, which gurgle, twist, and mutate respectively in their own shapes made with of unparalleled synthetic materials that don’t compare to any other substance found in the sound waves right now...
